I was a strange child, used to get very cross if I could see a ladies bra strap through her shirt. I thought it looked cheap. Don't mind so much now.

As a young man my Dad used to get the same train from Kettering to London every day he'd buy a paper to do the cryptic crossword. Sn older man would sit across from Dad and do the same crossword and would always finish it in half the time and look smug all the way to London. What a dick.

One morning Dad had reached breaking point. In a flash of inspiration he arose early and bought two copies of the paper. He solved the crossword in one then caught the train. He opened his paper and in front of captain smug he simply filled in the blank grid in a matter of seconds.

Today I found out that science fiction giant and creator of the three laws of robotics Isaac Asimov once wrote a book of jokes and limericks.

I just think that risking your life at a moment's notice to save people you've never met in exchange for no money is a better expression of patriotism than dressing up like a Poundshop paramilitary and intimidating families with kids trying to get onto a ferry.

It's Sunday morning and I'm waiting for a friend to pick me up so we can move 6 of his motorcycles from his garage to his newly extended lounge.

Hi Folks. Simple question but so am I. If one found the need to insert a new blank row every second row in Google Sheets how would one do so?

Not one to let the fact that something no longer exists stop me from looking for it I set off again. I knew roughly where the bridge once was so off into the bushes for a look. BINGO! The last time I was so excited about a bit of rusty metal was when I got the coaster brake to work on my huffy.

Look. In your face Time Team. That there is a rusty parapet. Smashing. The search for the mystery object will soon continue. I have a feeling it may have been a tippler. Here ends my Ted Talk.

I'm researching this little area. This is about where our walks used to stop and turn back. If you take a look at where the line coming in from the west meets the bridleway there is a bridge symbol. Hmm. I love me a bridge.

Mr Tonks comes up with the goods. This carried trains under the bridleway and on to the mainline loading area. Mr Tonks also informed me it had been backfilled along with the cutting.

I've been up and down that track so many times trying to find an industrial site of some sort that we used to visit. The fact that I have no idea what it was probably isn't helping.

I've decided to leave the mystery object for now. I've been playing around on the fabulous NLS side by side maps and reading the famous works of Eric Tonks, the leading documenter of all things ironstone.

As I'm sure you're all aware I'm a switched on finger on the pulse kind of guy with a huge interest in current affairs. This explains my obsession with the former mineral railways of North Northamptonshire and South Leicestershire.

The pin at the bottom was where me and dad used to park to walk up the bridleway to the west of the mainline. This was the site of Glendon and Rushton ironstone quarries. The longest continually quarried site in the Midlands.

Well that's another dream shattered. If only our boys got more goals than the other side we could have won it . There's always next time.#thefotball #argeng #backofthenet #nobbystiles

Bet you can't guess who's just spent an hour or so trying to find signs of a mineral line that nobody told me was underground 🙄

I walk to work every day and generally see the same people. Most of the time we'll have a quick chat as that's the kind of guy I am. The old guy with the Patterdale stopped this morning but didn't have his dog.

10 years ago today I was well on my way to completing my first dry day in 30 odd years. I was off my box on benzos and terrified of what the future might bring. You've spent so much of your time to either getting pissed, being pissed or recovering from being pissed what do you fill the time with?

Luckily I had and still have an amazing support group. When I ran my addiction support group this was a huge concern for most. Some people believe when you're sober you're "cured" If you're supporting someone who's ready to dry out please be ready to carry on afterwards as long as possible
