If you’ve ever felt the DSM doesn’t quite capture your clients, you’re not alone. There’s a growing push toward dimensional models like HiTOP, but questions still remain about how it can work in real clinical practice— questions we’re hoping to answer.

Super excited to share a thread on our recent paper, “Mapping United States federal funding for mental health difficulties from 2020-2024 to the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology: A registered report,” now in press at Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science! osf.io/preprints/ps... 🧵

Thrilled to share our registered report at Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science! In it, we mapped all funding from NIMH, NIDA, NIAAA, and NICHD from 2020-2024 according to HiTOP (@hitop-system.bsky.social) osf.io/preprints/ps...

Extremely excited to (briefly) discuss a new Registered Report led by @nphillips36.bsky.social in press at J. of Psychopathology and Clinical Science. We used LLMs to code over 53,000 grant abstracts from 2020 to 2024; all were funded by NIMH, NIDA, NIAAA, NIHCD.

Check out Tam's *epic* registered report meta-analysis on HRV and psychopathology in a @hitop-system.bsky.social framework. So excited to see and be a part of this kind of work ✨

Very excited to finally share our latest paper! We meta-analysed 732 effect sizes from 430 studies (> 62,000 participants) to ask whether lower resting HRV is specific to certain mental disorders or shared across many forms of psychopathology. psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/202... 1/

Nice write up of @carrisacocuzza.bsky.social's latest work using brain dynamics to study transdiagnostic symptom profiles. @holmeslab-bhi.bsky.social, @rutgersbhi.bsky.social, and @rutgersu.bsky.social. Likely of interest to @hitop-system.bsky.social oriented folks.

Turns out empirically derived phenotypes (data-driven symptom sets) nested within traditional mental disorders can help reduce diagnostic heterogeneity! We learned so much cool and interesting stuff in this study. I could talk (/post) about it all day, but here’s a few highlights (🧵)

Yesterday our outgoing and incoming Executive Committees for the HiTOP Society met to reflect on how far we've come and where we want to take things in 2026. There are not many things I feel optimistic about right now, but this group is one for sure ✨

I’m pretty delighted to be part of this awesome group! Can’t wait to work together in this new chapter for HiTOP

We were fortunate to have an outstanding group of candidates this year for our inaugural elections. Thanks so much to everyone who stepped forward to run and to all members who participated in the vote!

Our inaugural elections for the HiTOP Society Executive Board are underway! If you're a member you should have received your ballot yesterday. Please vote by November 19th, and thank you for helping shape the future of the society.

I’ve spent the last 8 years(!) working from the position that HiTOP relies too much on analyses of traditional diagnoses, baking in limitations of the DSM, and that we need to move to symptom-level analyses to fix it It turns out that rebuilding HiTOP from the ground up doesn’t change much 💀 1/

Look no further for an *excellent* overview of HiTOP! This chapter for the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Dimensional Models in Psychopathology does a fantastic job of pulling everything together. Tam Pham is an absolute superstar and I feel very lucky to work with her ✨ osf.io/preprints/ps...

Don't forget all HiTOP Society members are invited to vote in the current bylaws referendum - closing September 26th. Check your email for details, and reach out if you have any questions!

If you’re open to acting as a local host for the 2026 HiTOP Conference, please get in touch with @miriforbes.bsky.social. We’re looking for inexpensive options (e.g., university spaces, rather than hotels) so very open to ideas or suggestions if you’ve had experience organising this kind of event!
