Kinda love how many monsters in mythology are literally just "animal with bits of other animal". Yeah, we stuck a crocodile on to a gazelle. Sure, what if locusts had faces and scorpion tails. What if it was a normal guy but we stick a horse to him. Genius

I've wanted to try constructing it for a while, because it's surprisingly simple! Follows consistent rules all the way around, there's no guesswork or improvising. Just pure geometry. Stacking circles is fun!

It's funny recently I watched both Rocky and First Blood for the first time and both are so much not what I expected/nothing like the shlocky reputation the rest of their respective branches. Also neither of them felt like they needed sequels either.

This one, like the last two, is from the same sort of time period- right around 1300 and the decade or two after it. This one's called intersecting style, because it's built on intersecting the same arch over itself repeatedly, giving you these pointy and diamond shapes at the top.

I've been watching For All Mankind, just started season 3 and that opening episode is so stupid I'm actually kinda annoyed by it. It's constantly reminding us of the physics of the absurd situation that only seem to become relevant as the dialogue acknowledges it.

Oh and let's also ignore that all the various cables and elevators fail way below their big "uh oh" rotational speed. Space hotel designed by morons I guess?? The episode is a whole series of dumb character decisions stuck together with poor physics representation

There's nooo way in hell a space hotel full of people wouldn't notice rapidly weighing over twice their normal body weight and more. There was no need for the maintenance spacewalk to not be tethered. There's no redundancy on the only thing keeping them standing??? No heavy shields for debris??

They literally acknowledge when the force hits over 2g that it's like carrying yourself on your own back but nobody acts like it until they say that line, even though the episode has shown they've been under that for ages. And they're at 4g for minutes and nobody passes out??

This one is called the curvilinear style! In the first half of the 14th century, stonemasons got a little nuts with window designs. It's all about flowing curves rather than rigid geometry. You just have to have fun with it! Then the black death happened and they very suddenly get a lot less fancy

Even though the period was kinda the height of gothic design in this country, I find myself preferring the more ordered and restrained gothic styles that are a little less maximalist. But I can ignore just how at the top of their game these guys were with these

This is called reticulated tracery! It's built on a net of regular touching circles which forms this pattern of ogee arches flowing into each other. Really simple but looks pretty. Started appearing around the turn of the 14th century

The written word is doomed. I've just caught that awful stupid useless Google AI overview writing "loose" when it meant "lose", and "break" when it meant "brake". It wasn't enough to be actively wrong about everything it tried to butt in with, it's doing it like your average internet commenter.

I just watched Twilight for the first time (I don't know how I missed it when my entire friend group at school was nuts about it when it came out) and do you know what? I didn't hate it at all. I think it's just fine. It's not amazing, but it's not the worst thing ever.

Maybe the hate for it was overblown. Maybe it got so much shit because the kinds of loud critics you hear weren't the target audience 🤷 I'm not saying it didn't have moments that were unintentionally funny, but idk it told a story with kinda bizarre direction, and that's interesting

Worst part of this whole project: I wrote the map data and map editor before anything else. The map editor treats the top left square of the grid as 0,0 because it was simpler to draw it in that way. This has meant EVERY single other runtime class dealing with the grid has to to invert it :) :)

I told you the spaghetti was bad, and this was me TRYING to keep it neat; the worst thing about coding something like this is halfway through making it you can easily see a better way of doing things but it's way too late to turn back

I can confirm you can now win the game in a variety of ways

Well I made a whole mission scripting system that handles game events, shows dialogue, spawns units, all that sort of thing. Gotta also hook up being able to actually win the game... but a few more features and I'll have something I can kinda just focus on making pretty!

I loved Battalion Wars growing up and it still lives rent free in my head, so I figured I'd take another one of its designs and explore its art style and push the shape language even further. slaps roof of gunship, falls apart. Artstation: lnkd.in/e9knGm45 #3Dart
