My catch-phrase is going to be "Man, I hate when that happens". That, or "#($*ing auto-correct"

Got an Apple TV 4K, reviews said it played all files, better than my Roku, and this seems true. However, I have NO other Apple products, and the 4K is logging me out all the time. This is incredibly annoying, and mostly makes it unusable. Roku stayed logged in. Any insights are appreciated

Here is the cover for Captain Marvel Vol 8 #15, drawn by David López. This is an example of "in popular media" in the museum at the Statue of Liberty. (The Planet of the Apes is a movie poster I think) Not a big fan of her face, tbh

I could not begin to say all the stuff I #FoundInTheGCD. I often fall down a rabbit hole, and it's usually something like "What? The Purple Cape has 12 different series from 7 publishers from 1941 to 2006? How have I never read this?" It's a great resource.

I have a couple of followers here, so I thought I should mention that I'm going to be out for a bit, and posting will be sporadic if at all. You'll have to search comics yourself and make your own snarky comments about them

Here's an idea for the news organization that can't cover the Prez. Just guess what happened. "The president approached the podium and let out a huge belch, spitting up part of his lunch. Then he let loose a horrible fart, obviously soiling his pants. Those nearby moved away."

Did anyone else have to go through "age verification" recently? I had to do it with Bluesky just now. Hoping it wasn't a scam, but it wouldn't let me on until I did it. I am in a "location that requires age verification"

As part of the continuing enshittification of things, I've noticed it's harder now to just buy something, like at a self checkout. Do you want a warrantee? Do you want to donate to some random cause? Are you in our loyalty program? Do you want to join? How many bags did you use? This other cause?

"Metzger's Dog" by Thomas Perry I know this book is 46 years old now, but I just recently read it, and it's one of the funniest and funnest books I've ever read. These guys accidentally steal from the CIA and try to blackmail them for money, hilarity ensues. Amazed no one every made it into a movie

So, @bradmeltzer.com sent me an advance copy of "The Viper", his latest Zig and Nola novel. This was a fun read, with many twists and turns, few that I saw coming. Very much enjoyed it, I like these characters. If you can't get Brad to send you a copy, maybe hit up Barnes & Noble or something.

Kind of disappointed, got a new router but it didn't make anything any faster. I even removed the plastic wrap and took it out of the box. Set it on the old one, nothing. It's like it's not even there. So much for "wireless router".

I know, I know, you have a business of some sort, and absolutely HAVE to have a "Black Friday" sale. If I get an email with those words in it, I delete it immediately, not reading anything else. Whoever you are, whatever you're selling, canned.

People are often asking me why I'm here. Not on Bluesky, but something angry like "Why are you in my apartment? I don't know you!" And I have to be honest and say "The voices in my head told me to go into 16B." "Did they tell you to bring that big knife?" I reply "No, I just like knives." Fun times

I'm a big believer that AI is in large part jargonistic bullshit, but it can actually do harm. futurism.com/commitment-j... Story about a man who fell down a rabbit-hole. His wife said "I'm looking at what's going on the screen, it just sounds like a bunch of affirming, sycophantic bullshit."

futurism.comPeople Are Being Involuntarily Committed, Jailed After Spiraling Into "ChatGPT Psychosis"People experiencing "ChatGPT psychosis" are being involuntarily committed to mental hospitals and jailed following AI mental health crises.

I mean, there is no "intelligence" here, artificial or otherwise. It is just "fast guessing". This can be useful or it can drive people crazy believing the program is "talking to them". But sure, OpenAI is blameless. "Sure we're ignoring Copyright and what product doesn't drive a few people insane?"

I know I keep harping on this, but current "AI" is DANGEROUS! When an AI-powered therapist was built and tested by researchers — designed to please its users — it told a (fictional) former addict that "It's absolutely clear you need a small hit of meth to get through this week," reports the WaPo

Just saw the new "Mission Impossible: Probably the Final One?", and the main impossible thing was trying to sit through it without going to the bathroom, amirite? Yes, yes I am. At least at the Alamo theater, they had a 5 minute recap of the previous film, much needed.

One of the problems I see with current AIs (and maybe all of them, I don't know) is that they don't seem to be able to say "I don't know". You can ask a stupid, gibberish question, and it has to come up with an answer, usually totally devoid of reality. This is asinine.

Can't we just ask the Saudis to keep him? He eats KFC and McDonalds, so he won't even be that hard to feed. Surely they have a room decorated in gold they aren't using. He probably wouldn't notice the difference.

From the NYT: "The American stock market tumbled today to its lowest point in several months. The S&P 500 dropped 2.7 percent, its worst single-day decline of the year. ... the Nasdaq slipped 4 percent " Thanks, Trump!

You are up to date.
