Domestic surveillance is no joke. The government can literally compel companies to grant them access to your online accounts.

Thank you for saying this! Sure, that AI-assisted categorization feature in your Google Photos account is cool, but it means letting this tech see files.

Most "private" AI claims are theater. The real risk isn't your IP address—it's your data being used for training and your payment trail. Stop trusting marketing fluff and learn how to vet actual data sovereignty. #AI #Privacy https://trynoguard.com/learn/private-ai-that-doesnt-train-on-your-data

Canadians may be friendly but they don't screw around when it comes to privacy. A form of respect additional to apologizing for everything.

That's right. Did you know the government can even compel your cloud storage provider to hand your files over for investigation? Your data can and will be used against you in today's reality.

So can pretty much any company you store files with. We need to stop giving our privacy away in unecessarily confusing account terms and conditions.

Its funny how everyone's idea of heaven is a complete untouched paradise, crystal clear waters, lush green forests, enough food for everyone, classless, moneyless, stateless, a Utopia of peace, unity and happiness. But here on earth it's considered a leftist ideology.

It doesn't just deserve to go bankrupt... it needs to actively atone for everything it's done.

Great post. It's a sobering reminder of the "surveillance capitalism" model. Always verify link safety before clicking—tools like privacy-focused browsers can help limit that tracking too! #Privacy

This is a problem. It shouldn't be opt-out. Nothing privacy-related should be nowadays. Google is well-aware the average consumer doesn't know their rights nor the way it violates them.

2/ It’s called Carbon Capture & Storage. To make it work, we’d need to capture CO2 pollution in multiple ways: • Trap it from smoke stacks • Absorb it from the air with grasses/trees, then capture it from those plants when they’re burned for fuel • Scrub it from the air with giant fans

the internet has become too magical. "cloud storage" is sending files to someone elses computer. linking accounts is signing in on someone elses computer. buying things online needs you to send you card info to someone elses computer. everthing takes place on someone elses computer.

Wish she would also identify what the data center will be used for, crypto mining, cloud storage, AI, or ? Crypto should get NO tax breaks and should have to pay high taxes and electrical and water infrastructure charges. Cloud should be audited. Doge has the entire S-S and IRS files somewhere.

Thank you for speaking up about this. Businesses should, too. Glad to see my cloud service provider - a Canadian company called Sync - is publicly opposed.

On why you should pay attention to Bill C-22 and the AI surveillance apparatus the Government of Canada is building:

Formatting my reply as a repost because I feel everyone needs to be told: How familiar are you with Swiss law? Government interests? Overseas data transfer and storage come with risk. It's safer at home.

Rod McMillan 🍉 🇸🇩 🇺🇦 📚@morewretchthansage.bsky.social

Why would it being North American be better than Swiss privacy protection?

Is there really a point when Microsoft will hand the government access to your files anyway?

Nire Bryce@nirebryce.breadthcharge.net

Activists still using Windows, there's going to be a string of security updates and you'll likely want to do them as soon as you can on every device you own because one of them patches a bitlocker bypass that might let the drive be decrypted without a key msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide...

A reminder to everyone that pretty much all of these will be affected by Canada's new privacy Bill.

I will be so pissed if this Bill goes through. It's clearly being implemented by people who don't understand and aren't qualified for cybersecurity regulation. The stakes go beyond messaging. Many forget cloud storage access is in jeopardy as well.

David TS Fraser@privacylawyer.ca

It may be worth noting in connection with Bill C-22 Lawful Access, that the folks who sign production orders and warrants in many provinces don't have to be qualified to even apply to be a judge, let alone a lawyer.

Consent is important. But it's sad to remember the reality that most consumers today don't care enough to advocate for it.

Dear @dropbox.com Pop up another modal on my desktop asking me how I'm "enjoying the Dropbox desktop experience," and I'm going shopping for another cloud. Seriously that bullshit can fuck right off.

Yes! I'll take this as an opportunity to remind people that virtually all mainstream cloud storage companies use AWS.

Russ Jones@russincheshire.bsky.social

Literally the one way to fully boycott Amazon is to stop using any connectivity. No phone. No laptop. No GPS. No TV. No cloud storage And no company that uses any of those things. Amazon is now infrastructure. It's indistinguishable from The Internet. That's where the money comes from. Not books.

Exactly why I'm against any and all integrations with AI. If a company is making it a priority, consumer rights aren't on the same list.
