If you tell a malignant narcissist that they're hurting you or you don't like their decisions, this is great news for them. This means their plan is working. They love hearing this. You're assuming they have feelings and care about yours. Wrong. They quietly or openly delight in your pain.

Yesterday, I got digital fingerprints ($50) at a Seattle post office for an FBI background check ($18). I want you to know that went well. Despite the machine only accepting 8 fingers (2 too dark), I got my clean background check emailed within two hours. This system is automated and working.
