Every month there’s a new layer: agents, tools, memory systems, skills, orchestrators, vector stores, prompt frameworks. It feels like you need a small DevOps team just to ask a question. But most of it is scaffolding around one simple thing: You + a language model.

Strip it down and there are only three moving parts: 1. The model 2. The instructions you give it 3. The context it can see Everything else — skills, rule files, plugins, orchestration apps — is just a way of managing those three pieces at scale.
