Buried in New York State's proposed budget is an ill-conceived measure to stifle 3D printing with surveillance and censorware. We need to act now to defend creators and demand legislators to drop these provisions. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

"The thing about fucking off to the woods is that unless you are a very particular, very rare sort of person, it does not take long to understand why people left said woods in the first place." -- The opening sentence of "A Prayer for the Crown-Shy"

I had a thought of something the Star Trek people could do, whenever they want to wrap up SNW: keep using the Enterprise sets, and jump ahead to Star Trek TOS seasons 4 &5. We've already met Spock, Chapel, Uhura, M'benga, & Jim Kirk, so just start where TOS left off and finish the Five Year Mission.

I don’t care if you hate porn. Please for the love of god don’t get stuck there cognitively. Anti-porn legislation + how trans and NB people (even cis drag queens/kings) are being consistently described as sexually deviant = the groundwork is being laid for all queer expression to be made illegal.

Well, here we go. The GOP has just introduced a bill to effectively outlaw all pornography. The bill dismantles the Supreme Court's Miller Test for obscenity, removing provisions that the content be patently offensive to community standards. dailycaller.com/2025/05/08/n...

If the afterlife has a sense of humor, Val Kilmer is now standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at him

Those were Nazi salutes Elon did. Anyone who says otherwise is following the 1984 playbook: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." -- George Orwell

Movie idea: 1. Couple freezes embryo, uses it 20 years later. 2. Government passes a "life begins at conception" bill. 3. 16 years later, that 15(/35) year old runs for President, and wins.

I'm going to begin my Bluesky adventure with ... a book announcement! (I will have other things to say later, but I might as well start as I mean to go on.) The Weaver of the Middle Desert is out! It's available from the regular places and also my website: www.victoriagoddard.ca/products/the...

victoriagoddard.caThe Sisters Avramapul 3: The Weaver of the Middle Desert (EBOOK)If you fight the gods, you may win, but you will never be the same. The third tale of the Sisters Avramapul, who are afraid of very little besides boredom.

So tonight in Stupid IT Tricks, I turned a Chromebook into a Chromebook. I took a 2-years-past-support Asus C202SA, removed the write-protect screw, used mrchromebox's script to update to full UEFI firmware, then installed ChromeOS Flex on it, bringing it back to life as a modern Chromebook.

You ever thought about how if you went back in time and made one tiny change, you could change the future for the better? Well you voting this November could be that tiny change! Your single, seemingly insignificant vote, could be the pebble that starts the avalanche.

I'm not someone who goes for ironic tattoos or tattoos that take a lot of explaining* but I've got a spot where an old one' was and I'm >< close to considering this one for precisely the reasons listed here. * yes I know about that one. and those two. and that on... SHUT UP

Holiday baking, over the past couple weeks: Cottage Cheese Cookies, Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies, Dutch Cocoa Cookies, Blueberry Muffins. For today, I will be making Apple Pie.

Victoria Goddard - Start with "Hands of the Emperor" if you are in the mood for a long read, or "Stargazy Pie" if you want something shorter [but Hands of the Emperor is so good you should read it ]

T. Kingfisher - Lots of starting places. Start with "Swordheart" or "Paladin's Grace" if you enjoy some romance mixed in to your fantasy, start with "A Wizard's Guide To Defensive Baking" or "Illuminations" if you want something more YA. "A Wizard's Guide" also gave me a Terry Pratchett vibe.

Lois McMaster Bujold - Start with "The Curse of Challion", continue on to the rest of the Challion novels and Penric & Desdemona novellas. If you prefer SF, you can start with "The Warrior's Apprentice" (the first Miles Vorkoisgan book) or "Shards of Honor" (Miles's parents).

Just wanted to recommend a few fantasy/sf authors who I have been reading a bunch of this year. I know bsky doesn't really do threads, so I'll post each of the three in separate posts.

If you've fallen out of practice of wearing a mask, this would be a good week to start again! COVID rates are rising because of a new variant, and because many people will have gotten sick over Thanksgiving. Your best protection is wearing a high quality mask.
