Just watched Ted lasso finale. Really great. I was worried this comeback season would be lame, and while it had its weak parts it was overall very good. Only show I’ve ever watched where I laugh and cry in the same episode.

The Stars & Stripes was the flag of a constitutional democracy, which ended in Jan. ‘25 I no longer fly it and won’t again until the constitution is restored, de jure AND de facto.

WITA: was I the asshole? Moving my son into college this weekend. Went to Trader Joe’s to stock up. The store was predictably full of parents & students stocking up. Petite mom struggling to hold a heavy, overflowing hand basket while college age son w/ gym rat body stood by. 1/

Me: “Son, are you gonna let your mother carry that heavy basket?” (I’m southern, so I often call young males “son.”) Kid took over basket. Mom didn’t say a word but if looks could kill, today would be my funeral. Her lips twitched like she was holding back rage So, Bluesky, WITA? 2/x

Tonight is going to be duck breast with a blackberry pan sauce, roasted beets and carrots, and muchroom risotto. Typically I use dry vermouth for the wine in the rice but considering a red wine this time, just to change it up. Opinions and feedback welcome.

I read The Big Short. And I’ve been trading bonds for 30+ years. I did pretty well in 2008, it was my second best year ever (09 was best). So I never felt a need to see The Big Short movie. Halfway though now, taking a break to say how great it is. I highly recommend both book and film.

Business etiquette question: As a native southerner, saying “sir” and “ma’am” are nearly automatic me, but many women in finance dislike “ma’am” and I can’t blame them. It sounds archaic. I’ve taken to simply saying Ms. X until they say “oh call me ______.” Anyone suggest something less awkward?

Most of Iran’s senior leadership was active during the hostage crisis and the stormy early years of the regime. They still fondly remember taking down an American president, with the final fuck you of releasing hostages at 12:01 Inauguration Day 1/

They want to take down another American president. They are willing to wreck their own economy to do it. Expect an October surprise (which might me a September surprise this time, since they know about early voting). 2/2/x

Not very long ago I was the kind of patriot who got teary eyed singing the anthem. Now if I had a realistic alternative, I’d leave this country. RIP constitutional democracy, 1788-2025.

My initial thought (which I reserve the right to change) is that I'd rather Bondi have stayed. She is a lightning rod for the Epstein files, a good target to pressure for full release. Her replacement (almost surely Blanch as "acting") will be better able to ignore and perhaps ignite the files.

In addition to term limits and more justices, another badly needed SCOTUS reform is relegation. At end of every term the worst justice is mandatorily retired and best appellate judge gets promoted

Mark, if you’re reading this, and if a total stranger’s opinion makes a diff to you, I am parent of a transgender child and I agree with and support your statements on this. We who can read know you what you meant.

FYI: I am going to stop summarizing Supreme Court decisions on here as they come down. One comment has been plucked out of context of all my reporting, misread, and used as the basis of a mean-spirited pile-on. I am not going to subject myself to this. If this was your goal, then congratulations.

NATO, 1949-2025 RIP The org will still pretend to exist for a while. There'll be meetings, they'll tap secretaries general, pay some occasional lip service. But NATO is now the Holy Roman Empire
