The NY Times will publish a hit piece on the Democratic Alaska senate candidate six days before an Election but won't mention a new rape allegation against the President of the United States.

I wrote about Snail Mail's "Heat Wave," Doves' "Black & White Town," D'Angelo and the Vanguard's "The Charade" and Outkast's "B.O.B."

I DISAVOW ANY WHITE WASHING OF INDIE SLEAZE I WAS AT THE SECOND TV ON THE RADIO SHOW EVER THE BLACK CONTRIBUTION TO COCAINE USAGE IN NEW YORK CIRCA 2005 WILL NOT BE IGNORED

The Fugees have perpetuated drama for decades...but this is particularly nasty work. Screenshot taken from a New York Comic-Con post on Mass Appeal's IG page.

This is a very good discussion despite a few quibbles about O-Dub and Mansbach's riffs. For example, the Common vs Ice Cube beef was *far from* over when "Stakes Is High" dropped. It didn't end until Farrakhan brought them together after Biggie's murder in 1997.

In '96, De La Soul dropped "Stakes is High," the album that de facto set off the underground vs. mainstream wars of the late '90s & early 00s On its 30th anniversary, @owang.bsky.social & Adam Mansbach discussed its impact, the Dilla contributions, how it aged & more www.powmag.net/p/de-la-soul...

Also glad this whole thing about *actually "Illmatic" wasn't the first with super-producers* debate gets cleared up. There were others prior to it, but "Illmatic" was the first one I remember that got promoted as such.

I exchanged smiles with Shannon Doherty at Disneyland while a-ha's "Take on Me" played on the loudspeakers.

Tell me a story about yourself that sounds like a lie but is actually true

The central conflict of American music journalism – access/service prerogatives vs. contentious, fact-based and investigative work – is a timeless quandary that predates the ignominious end of well financed outlets and deserves more discussion than it receives.

I haven't attended Portola Music Festival – I was intrigued by the inaugural edition but none of the lineups since have interested me – so I don't have a strong opinion about it. But First Floor does, apparently. firstfloor.substack.com/p/undergroun...

I reviewed Mike D's "Thank You," Space Afrika's "Quiet Storm" and Saul Williams's "Leap Life" as well as retrospective reviews of Aphex Twin's "Drukgs" and Greg Tate's "Flyboy in the Buttermilk."

California leftists made a terrible mistake by not fielding a credible gubernatorial candidate. (And no, Tom Steyer doesn't count.) Given what's happening in Los Angeles, that person would have won so easily. Instead, we're about to get stuck with another Gray Davis-type "centrist" for four years...

No shots, just building on this conversation. Rodney Carmichael brings up some good points. www.npr.org/2026/10/02/n...

It's possible but I don't think so — most weeks that "Texas" has led it's led by a pretty significant margin. The difference in YouTube is bigger between some singles than others but it's pretty rare that it's enough to close anywhere near that kind of gap.

Has YouTube's decision last year to pull its data from Billboard's charts factored into conversations about the Hot 100 dominance of "Choosin' Texas?" I'm wondering since none of the stories I've read about so far seem to address it.
