This is a very hard quartzite I picked up. Not travelled far. Edges are sharp. It would be a tool material though. I thought it was a chert/tool or core but it is not. Descriptions in alt. Very interesting rock and a nice one to have. Pleased with its lovely features, as any geologist would be.

When you land a Spitfire in a ploughed field, you need some new terms. ""Fly a Spitfire said: "We have spoken to the pilot who has advised that a precautionary landing was made at a non-airfield site.""- "I pranged the bloody thing" is not how

Cure for the Ague 20 grains Ipecacuahna at Night 20 gr Jalapin- or an equally powerful dose of Rhubarb in the morning ¾ ounces of Bark the Night preceeding the fit- repeat the dose of Bark 5 days after- Bishop Cleaver- NB- Mr Hull says a much smaller dose is sufficient

Bluesky academics, let’s get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren’t working on but keep thinking about (not considered an academic, but I do research anyways): 1) Diversity in the visual picture of the past 2) Crazy Halaf burials

Kenswick Mill is listed, but nobody seems to have asked how it got water, when the leat is 800 metres long. It wanders round the fields in a way detached from current landscape. 2/

I figured a missing/ theoretical Saxon mill and a partly silted up millpond, and on very old maps, could be an answer. Just no evidence and it would take a hole over 3 metres deep to find out. 3/

A thread: 🧵 I am going to poison you all with Goulards extract. Msr. Thomas Goulard had quite powerful incentives in his promotion of lead salts as a medicine. He was charging customers what, in today’s prices, would be about £80, for a gallipot of this poisonous muck. 1/10

One can assume the gullible public were unaware of such bickering behind the scenes and continued to kill themselves with it. Oddly however, it seems to have lasted until WW1 when used to treat wounds. Litharge is a secondary mineral which forms from the oxidation of lead ores. 3/10

The term "litharge" has been combined to refer to other similar substances. For example, "litharge of gold" is litharge mixed with red lead, giving it a red colour. It is another cumulative poison. 4/10

The medical profession such as it stood at the time (around 1782), were able to ask leading questions about this form of treatment and some were noticing that there were poisoning effects behind the use of lead ointments. 2/10

#pimples Receipt for a pimpled face. Take half a pint of spirits of wine put into a glass vessel, beat one handful of house-leek and squeeze the juice, let it stand till it is of a milky colour and rub a few drops of it into the skin in the morning

In the Middle and the Renaissance “Spirits of Wine” was called “Aqua Vitae”. This is the 18th century terminology for what would now be called ethanol. House leek is the plant Sempervivum tectorum.

"The world is now rapidly approaching a global war"-Budanov. "This is my subjective assessment: based on the totality of geography, we see several conflicts that, at first glance, seem to be regional, except for Ukraine The world is now rapidly approaching a global war " the intelligence chief said.

Transliteration is quite hard, however I got used to the handwriting. Doing the Huntroyd Receipts I did my best to use convention, but sometimes it did not quite suit what was wanted.
