On today's birthday of Franz Liszt (1811-1886), my gratitude to enterprising pianist Leslie Howard and @hyperionrecords.bsky.social for giving us the complete works for piano. Howard aptly called it “the journey of a lifetime.” Issued in 2011 as a set of 99 CDs, it was a monumental achievement.

The latest in our series of limited-edition boxed-sets brings us to The Complete Violin Sonatas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Recorded by Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien, this multi-award-winning set of 10 CDs comes with comprehensive commentaries from Misha Donat.

Past and present elide in Jan Sandström's memorable arrangement of 'Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen'. The Swedish composer revisits the old German hymn, slowing it down so the tune seems to stretch out into time and space, suspended in a cloud of harmony.

Steven explains that 'learning a new piece of music often feels to me like a love affair': one such infatuation was Keith Jarrett performing 'My song'. Steven transcribed this after months of listening and says that playing it 'felt almost like touching something sacred'.

'Steven Isserlis plays The Marquis de Corberon' is an opulent boxed-set celebrating the 300th anniversary of the eponymous 1726 Stradivarius, cited as one of the world's greatest cellos. 10 CDs of Steven Isserlis's greatest albums performed on this incomparable instrument.

'Women and the Piano' is Susan Tomes's homage to the female composer-pianists who have all-too-often slipped through into obscurity. Their often-extraordinary stories are told in the accompanying booklet, and their music given a chance to re-live its contemporaneous lustre.

When she was only seven, the teenage Joseph Haydn came to live in Marianne Martínez's building in Vienna after being expelled from the church choir for naughty pranks. In lieu of paying rent, Haydn gave her keyboard lessons.

Minsoo Sohn makes his debut Hyperion recording with an impressively lyrical interpretation of Bach's Well-tempered Clavier Book 1, recorded as a personal tribute to Minsoo's teacher, Russell Sherman, who considered the work one of the highest expressions of the human spirit.

With this much-anticipated recording we welcome Minsoo Sohn to the Hyperion roster for the first in a series of recordings of pillars of the piano repertoire. His Bach is the culmination of a personal and artistic journey reaching back decades to his studies with Russell Sherman.

Still based in London, we've quietly built a catalogue of 2,300 albums spanning nearly 1,000 years of composition, including a few insane ideas like Liszt's complete piano works, the complete Schubert songs, and unearthing over 200 obscure Romantic piano concertos.

Rameau introduces an imitation of nature in 'Le rappel des oiseaux' (roughly translated as 'The conference of the birds'). This piece was most likely inspired by Rameau's friendship with the Jesuit Père Castel, who discussed with the composer the phenomenon and study of birdsong.

'I can hear a piece of music that I find beautiful and touching for the first time and feel nostalgia, not for my own childhood, but for the childhood of the world, for that sense of roots which I think is in all human culture.'—Stephen Hough

Past and present elide in Jan Sandström's memorable arrangement of 'Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen', the first single from The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge and director Steven Grahl's thoughtful yet enchanting album of 20th- and 21st-century Christmas carols.

On stage at Birmingham's Elgar Concert Hall It was great to get the gang back together for our “Radiant Dawn” programme! Since releasing our collaborative album with trumpeter Matilda Lloyd last year, we've loved taking it on tour 🎺

This record is the culmination of a personal and artistic journey for Minsoo, reaching back decades to his studies with Russell Sherman. The result is an interpretation of rare depth and joy, recorded in the magical setting of Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps.
