I'm surprised by the severe limitations of the Google Tasks and Google Keep API (for consumer accounts). Things like settings a deadline with both a date and time, or modifying a google keep note are impossible.

It's legitimately crazy to me that there are no native, user-friendly applications for viewing and modifying Markdown documents on Linux. I just want to manage some notes, without all the "second brain" or "PKM" stuff attached.

erys is an extremely talented software developer btw. Cut its teeth on Quake Engines, learned C++ on the job, worked on the Sin 1 remaster, cares a great deal about code restoration without breaking changes AND on top of all of that is extremely competent with CMake! (and I don't say that lightly!!)

It’s very clear by now that if LLMs are not improving your software quality it’s either a revealed preference (yours or your org’s) for more volume vs more quality, or a skill issue. The level of testing and review they are enabling in the Go cryptography standard library is amazing.

Software that "looks worse" is so much easier to use because the high contrast and harsh colors make it so much easier to identify where buttons, panels, and sections both start and end. Interfaces are meant to be used, not looked at.

Not saying it's impossible for good-looking software to be usable, just take a look at KDE Plasma, the best desktop environment on planet earth by an order of magnitude.

The explosion of "unique" TLDs is so crazy to me. Is there a reasonable justification for this? I think that so many of these should get "unassigned", like ".md" and ".google".

How is a person supposed to read all of stty's settings on Ubuntu 26? `man stty` shows uutils's man page, which is almost empty unlike GNU coreutils'. Certainly not my first issue with this... I think the rollout of uutils is reckless and premature...

Using CPAN is so wild. I can't seem to do anything without installing a bunch of random modules: Term::ReadKey, Term::ReadLine::Perl, CPAN::DistnameInfo, and Text::Levenshtein::Damerau::XS!

Does NPM no longer allow for using an authenticator app as a 2FA method??? I just cancelled my existing one to replace it immediately (old phone broke), but now I'm not sure what to do... If there is a short cooldown period, I should know about it.

Am I imagining things or was GitKraken from 10 years ago so much higher quality? I don't remember it being an electron app and having many of those bugs associated with being an electron app. The UI and UX also have a lot of paper cuts.

I'm completely baffled and utterly flabbergasted by Ubuntu's decision to replace GNU coreutils and sudo with Rust equivalents. I understand that 25.10 isn't an LTS release, but I expect things to be more polished. 😬 Right off the bat, I'm hit with bugs for their version of `mktemp` and `sudo`:

To be clear, I love Rust. But it seems this was rushed out the door too quickly. The rationale seems to be "improving security", which can't be denied, but it's also true that neither GNU coreutils nor sudo are teeming with vulnerabilities.

I'm just so frustrated that I have to figure out how to get my system to switch back to the battle-tested tools that we've been using for more than 2 decades now...

A bit of a vulnerable post by me but we need your help to get us through what has been a more difficult period than 2020. It would be really appreciated if you could read and share in your networks too 💛 bell.bz/its-been-a-v...

it is impossible to generate code comments from source code because good comments are definitionally based on things not in the source code (intent, counterfactuals, experiments, etc.)

I just ran the Jest test suite with Jest, and I'm kind of surprised that it told me in seconds - 477 to be exact. Sort of expected the default to be human readable, maybe there is a rational for that decision somewhere

Today I accidentally clicked on a vercel.com link... _Immediately_ my fans roar to life and somehow my the soundtrack I'm listening to skips and lags. Apparently the Linux process scheduler thinks rendering the Vercel website is more important than PipeWire... ? Has anyone else experienced this??

Was really excited to try out @solidjs.com, but devastated to learn that SSR w/out Babel isn't possible h & html assume browser env. packages under `dom-expressions` seemed to be _exactly_ what I was looking for, but that requires browser env as well. github.com/ryansolid/do...

github.comSSR Runtime for `hyper` and `lit` · Issue #148 · ryansolid/dom-expressionsAs the title says. Currently hyper and lit only run on browser runtime, so if one were to use these on server-side, users aren't able to use SSR API from dom-expressions
