"Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. ... individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do." On Tyranny, Lesson 1: Do Not Obey In Advance

"Suddenly it all comes down, all at once. You see what you are, what you've done, or, more accurately, what you haven’t done (for that was all that was required of most of us: that we do nothing). You remember everything, and your heart breaks." "They Thought They Were Free - The Germans, 1933-45"

"One day, your principles all rush in upon you. Some minor incident, in my case my little boy saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose." Interview: "They Thought They Were Free -The Germans, 1933-45"

"Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed." Interview: "They Thought They Were Free - The Germans, 1933-45"

"The world you live in—your nation, your people—is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are there, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the holidays. But the spirit is changed." Interview: "They Thought They Were Free - The Germans, 1933-45"

I wholeheartedly support this decision!!

"If the last, worst act of the regime had come immediately after the first, smallest; millions would have been sufficiently shocked... But of course this isn’t the way it happens. In between are hundreds of little steps... each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next." The Germans 33-45

"Uncertainty is a very important factor, and, instead of decreasing as time goes on, it grows. In your own community, you speak privately to your colleagues, some of whom certainly feel as you do; but what do they say?" Source: "They Thought They Were Free - The Germans, 1933-45" Milton Mayer

"You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow. And it is not just fear, fear of standing alone, that restrains you; it is also genuine uncertainty." "They Thought They Were Free - The Germans 1933-45" Milton Mayer

Iowa went for Trump by 13. It is now a toss-up. Josh Turek won his Iowa House seat by 6 votes in 2022, then held it by 5 points. Joni Ernst is retiring, and the RealClearPolitics average has Republican Ashley Hinson up under 1 point. This seat could decide the Senate. #IowaSenate

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people... to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act." - "They Thought They Were Free -- The Germans, 1933-45" Milton Mayer

"What all these ‘little measures’ (that no ‘patriotic German’ could resent) must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. One day it is over his head." source: "They Thought They Were Free -- The Germans, 1933-45" Milton Mayer

Iowa Federal judge: ICE & the dhs show "unprecedented disregard for court orders and failure to follow the law". 2nd judge: ice has a record of defying court orders. "non citizens are not bargaining chips to be shifted from district to district as litigation strategy". --- Iowa Capital Dispatch

In "Mein Kampf," Hitler described immigrants as "poison", praising the U.S. Immigration Act of 1924 for restricting immigration from certain regions of the world.

"17 months into the second Trump administration, over 675,000 people have been deported, ICE detainees have swelled to over 68,000, a 70% increase over where it stood at the end of the Biden years. And people are dying in those facilities at a rate this country has never seen before." Thom Hartmann

THE ICE LIE MACHINE is doing two things right now: 1) Pushing their lie that there was a reason for this killing - there was not. 2) Betting on the story to fade away. (online conversations like this are high activity for 24 - 48 hours, and then fade away) www.texastribune.org/2026/07/10/t...

Join us as we stand against the brutality of ICE, & honor the life of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. No one should lose their life or be subjected to violence and abuse simply for seeking safety or a better future. Our communities are stronger when we stand together against fear, cruelty, and injustice.

"The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and respectable Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations And Religions; whom we shall wellcome to a participation of all our rights and previleges." ---George Washington

Connected Americans is a national group that's meeting with representatives to work on immigration reform. CommUnity Project of Pottawattamie County is working with them on a local event.

ICE detention facilities are reporting deaths in unprecedented numbers and face accusations of medical neglect, inadequate food and other inhumane conditions. This comes as ICE is flush with cash, it's budget skyrocketing from ten to EIGHTY-FIVE billion dollars this year.

MARCH TIME UPDATED: 3 PM Due to the potential for severe weather, the Freedom Summer March to the CWS will now begin at 3 PM. We're moving the start time earlier to help ensure as many people as possible can participate safely while making our voices heard. Thank you for your flexibility.

Help us mourn the grifter king's 🎈 birthday by standing up to his brown shirts. Come to the weekly vigil at the Pottawattamie County jail, which imprisons immigrants without due process.

First amendment protected speech includes documenting anything and anyone in public places, sharing information with others on their rights, and sharing the location of law enforcement.

In the first year of the Trump admin, people held in detention by ICE increased from 38 to 68k. THIS REFLECTS A CIVIL DETENTION SYSTEM, not a criminal one. The majority of people in ICE custody are held without bail, and not because they’ve been accused of a crime. source: LegalClarity.org

Just so we're clear...the 5th Amendment says "No person...shall be denied life, liberty or property without Due Process." Not "no citizen," not "no person with exceptions for those in the country illegally." NO PERSON.

The same day SCOTUS dismantled the Voting Rights Act, I watched Kamala Harris take the stage at the Douglas Awards. She didn’t offer comfort; she offered real talk 🔥 “This is how they play. They are strategic. They think long-term and they are ruthless…we have to be ruthless too.”
