Last time there was a Connecticut Warbler in Pelham Bay Park I forgot to put a memory card in my camera. I had good luck with a cooperative bird and a functioning camera this time #bronx 🪶

I found a Hackberry Petiole Gall on my hackberry tree! This means a tiny insect called a psyllid has injected enzymes into the tree through its saliva causing this growth to occur that the psyllid lays its eggs in. There are a few different species of gall psyllids that use the leaves of this tree.

This fungus (Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae) infects the leaves of apple trees and then spreads to juniper trees (North American cedar trees are actually junipers) where it creates this oddly beautiful monstrosity which will produce spores to infect more apple trees.

The spiderwort and eastern bluestar are a nice complement to my non-native rose that I don’t get rid of because it does a nice job of covering up the rain barrel. #bronx
