First, thanks so much for all the kind comments about my manta ray painting! I loved painting this lovely creature. Second... some exciting news. I hope you'll come exploring with me as a Founding Member of the #OceanDevotion Mail Club! www.oceandevotion.studio/mailclub #scicomm

Manta ray painting, after the sketching I shared a few days ago. I’ve always loved rays. It’s delightful watching their elegance, speed, & curiosity. I also love the way light plays across the sand when I’m underwater. I’ve aimed to capture both in this piece. #OceanDevotion #sciart

I'm making this decision tonight, so let's have more votes! If you'd prefer to see another marine or coastal creature, what is it? #OceanDevotion Due to request, I've left the signups for the 1st Edition: Manta Ray open until midnight EDT tonight! HARD DEADLINE! www.oceandevotion.studio/mailclub

Now that signups for the November Ocean Devotion Mail Club manta ray mailing are closing at midnight EDT, I'm about to start the research & art for the December edition! What should I do? A. Leafy Sea Dragon B. Narwhal C. Blue-ringed Octopus D. Some kind of jellyfish #OceanDevotion #MailClub

The sketches for my next book are due in a month, so I’m going through the reference material I gathered on this whale watch. This was a great moment. But they all are. Whale watching never ever gets old.

Having a whale of a weekend. Another outing with the Dolphin Fleet out of Ptown. SO many 🐋🐋! (And big swell. Multiple people 🤮) Another research trip for my next book about humpbacks. So lucky to live near where they thrive in the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctury! 🎥 to come #OceanDevotion

1/2 Drama yesterday—a minke whale got into the marina & couldn’t get out. IFAW was here, monitoring it but there wasn’t much they could do at low tide. Then the poor whale got stuck under the dock at low tide. Our tidal range is 11 feet or more, and animal events are common (molas, dolphins).

2/2 It was very distressing to see it stuck & with no way to help it, but it could breathe. (Not sharing that video unless I’m asked.) But the tide was coming in. The whale isn’t there this morning, nor was IFAW, so I hope it got out as the dock rose. 🤞

Good morning! Subtropical Storm Josephine is still ripping it up out here! Lots of erosion and a good sandblasting for me. Here are your 4 or so minutes of peace, calm… and wind and waves. #OceanDevotion

Saw a whale carcass this morning. Washed up in the subtropical storm. Poor whale. But it’s pretty cool when you’re a scientific illustrator doing a book on humpbacks and the sea delivers you one to look at up close. Yes, I took pics! NO 💀🐋 whale in this #OceanDevotion video though.

The seaweed cyanotype reveal! 🌊☀️ After 12 minutes in the Cape Cod sunshine, it’s time to rinse & see what the seaweed, salt, & glass have created. I love that blue and the surprises! 1st stage in a special gift for Ocean Devotion Mail Club Founding Members. #OceanDevotion

I was just explaining to someone—in Spanish—the scope of my Antarctic work as a science communicator and that the ice of Antarctica is melting... ...but apparently it's too early in the morning. At least, they now know the ice cream of Antarctica is melting. 🤣

Good morning! Took this on my way to the coworking space this morning and completely forgot to share it! Here are your 2 minutes of peace & calm. #OceanDevotion

Day 33 of drawing every #bird I’ve ever seen: alpine swift I’m only kind of sure I saw this one. It was really high up and I didn’t have binoculars

Ok, I just finished my parrotfish illustration, using Procreate. This was a tricky fish at times, plus I was trying out some new watercolor brushes. But I think it turned out ok. The subject for next month’s #OceanDevotion Mail Club? We’ll see… Thanks @mediumman.bsky.social for the suggestion!

Marlo Garnsworthy@icebird.bsky.social

Ok, folks. I’m in the mood to paint something. What sea creature should I paint? I’ll paint it in Procreate then share the video here. #OceanDevotion

One of my must-do activities on Martha’s Vineyard at this time of year is mushroom pic-ing 🍄📸. I have so much fun finding as many different kinds as I can.

Did you know I take 🎨🖌️commissions? If you’re looking for a unique gift for the holidays, now’s the perfect time to request an artwork for your loved one! But the window for the upcoming holiday season is closing soon!

Some shots from Newcomb Hollow today. Some fishing/boating rope among the rubbish I trashed on my afternoon walk (more balloons included 😡), but reckon these bits will be useful in a creative project. Stay tuned… 👀 #OceanDevotion
