"Not giving up". At the Tel Aviv headquarters of the Likud, consistently polling as the second largest party.

Yes, this is about a petrostate seeing a business opportunity in an energy-starved country. But it's much more than that. It remains to be seen what an expanded Qatari role in Lebanon - via a fossil gas dependence - could mean for Iran, Hizbullah and the region.

That is very true. I've had the privilege to cooperate with both Israeli environmentalists opposing the war on Gaza and Ukrainian climate activists working to expedite the energy transition, and I wish more of the int'l climate movement acknowledged the intersections of war and the climate crisis.

The growing reliance on American LNG is now affecting Ukraine’s and Europe’s ability to withstand Putin. Europe’s dependence on American gas is a geostrategic risk of the first order, as serious as its historic addiction to Russian (and before that, Soviet) gas.

EU governments have already cut fossil gas demand significantly -- and even exceeded a common, non-binding target. Now might be a good time to double down on that.

The EU is facing a winter gas shortage that could leave it scrambling to replace lost energy supplies equivalent to the power used by 12 million homes, according to new reports shared with POLITICO.

Who would have thought the Putin regime would emerge as the main victor of the Iran war? Well, anyone who's been paying enough attention. Just the latest reminder that tyrants and fossil fuels pose an existential threat to humanity.

Came across this impressive mural in Goniądz. It apparently commemorates the massive wildfire that burned about 10% of the Biebrza national park, Poland's largest, in 2020. Apt location, too -- next to both a viewing platform overlooking the park, and a local fire station.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

I don't know if that ever materializes, but the Trump administration's intention to capture Iranian oil as part of the war is definitely there: www.bloomberg.com/news/article... It's already seized Venezuelan and Russian tankers before.
