Today I learned that I should use Python's "importlib.resources" to read files from a package, instead of directly opening the files. This works in cases like running or importing a package from a zip file. This was introduced in 3.7, in 2018.

I tried MATE’s Wayland session on NixOS but it is unfortunately not usable. The appearance panel and logging out don’t work. I don’t know if this is due to MATE’s implementation or NixOS’s packaging, but I have to try something else.
