Article 28 #UDHR: "Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized." Rights need more than words: laws, institutions and cooperation among states must make them real. #HumanRights

Article 27 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits." In practice, culture and science belong to all, and creators' work must be protected. #HumanRights

Article 26 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages." In practice, every child must be able to attend school at no cost, and education must build respect for human rights and tolerance. #HumanRights

Article 25 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care." In practice: no one should be left hungry, homeless or without care. #HumanRights

Article 24 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay." In practice: limited working days, weekly rest and paid holidays, so no one works endlessly and everyone has time to live. #HumanRights

Article 23 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work." In practice: equal pay for equal work, a wage that allows a dignified life, protection against unemployment and the freedom to join a union. #HumanRights

Article 22 #UDHR: "Everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security." When illness, old age, unemployment or disability strike, the State must help secure the economic, social and cultural rights each person needs to live in dignity and grow freely. #HumanRights

Human rights do not pause in times of crisis. Amid widespread protests and unrest, authorities remain bound to protect peaceful assembly, free expression and the physical integrity of all, using force only when necessary and proportionate. #HumanRights #RightToProtest

Spain seeks asylum shortcuts in Ceuta to send most migrants home, mainly to Morocco. Reuters found many have grounds for protection, from unaccompanied minors to LGBT Moroccans fearing jail. The EU Charter bars collective expulsion. #HumanRights www.irishexaminer.com/world/arid-4...

Article 20 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association." You may protest, march, meet, and form or join unions, parties and groups, and no one may force you to belong to one. Banning or punishing peaceful protest violates it. #HumanRights

Article 19 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression." You may hold any view and seek, receive and share information and ideas through any media, across borders. Censorship, jailed journalists and internet shutdowns all violate it. #HumanRights

Article 18 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion." You may hold any belief or none, change it, and practise it alone or with others, in public or private. No State may force a faith on you or punish you for your conscience. #HumanRights

Peaceful assembly, demonstration and protest are human rights, not privileges granted by governments. Police must facilitate them, use force only as a last resort and never in excess, and answer for abuses. Protesters are citizens, not enemies. #HumanRights #RightToProtest

Article 17 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property." Seizures, forced evictions or home demolitions need a clear lawful basis, due process and fair compensation. #HumanRights

Article 16 #UDHR: "Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses." Adults may marry and found a family regardless of race, nationality or religion, with equal rights in marriage and at divorce. Forced marriage breaks it. #HumanRights

Article 15 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to a nationality." No one may be arbitrarily stripped of it or denied the right to change it. Nationality opens the door to school, healthcare, work, voting and legal protection, so States must prevent statelessness. #HumanRights

Article 14 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution." Anyone fleeing persecution can ask another country for protection and must get a fair hearing, not be turned away at the border or sent back to danger. #HumanRights

Article 13 #UDHR: "Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each State" and "to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country." No State may trap people, exile them or bar them from coming home. #HumanRights
