Nearly always within (long) arms reach of a soldering iron, a set of lock picks, and a 'treats warning signs as personal insults' attitude. She/they/πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Today in the back asswards world of controls engineering: Turning 10 feet of shielded cable into unshielded cable by stripping off the outer insulation and braided em jacket, because it's the only 3 conductor cable we have, and I need a tighter bend radius.

Weird overlapping of worlds today at work. McMaster-Carr, already the spiritual AO3 of the industrial supply world, lists their cable connections as [End 1 x End 2]. I'm already invested in "NEMA 5-15 plug x IEC C13 Socket" I will be very worried if any of these listings get tagged as 'Slow burn'

Trying to set up MoCA so I can move my server somewhere less inconvenient. The connection is proving spotty, and multiple random devices are showing up. I may have accidentally started some kind of MoCA duel with another resident in the building.

Being shown behind the curtain that is keyed alike equipment is so much fun. It turns the world from 'oh, that thing has a key lock, good luck moving it' to, one Google, and 5 dollars on Amazon rendering it easier to detatch than if it had been secured with some quality double sided tape.

Heartbreaking - proud Pelican case owner doesn't have anything to put in it that would warrant dramatically setting it onto a table, clicking open both latches simultaneously, and reaching inside while smirking.

Snapped the little latch that actuates the soap dispenser on my dishwasher off. Right to repair win - No detailed manuals, but the exploded view shows all I need, I can get at the business end of it with a single screwdriver, and the parts are even available online. ...Eighty fucking dollars?

Turns out they only want to sell me the whole tray unit, motors and all, despite the little 20 cent piece of plastic that actually broke being trivial to remove and replace. I really do not care to try and model / print a replacement, so it's superglue time. Two steps forward, one step back ig.

Currently listening to one of a billion 'LitRPG transported to a vaguely high fantasy/magical world book' This one is solid middle of the pack for the most part, but at one point the MC was able to return to earth temporarily.

The closer link between the worlds, and the effect that has, is the real central force of the story, but it also means that, while temporarily back in our world, the MC takes the opportunity to fill her generic bag of holding with several hundred pounds of plastic explosives.

At some point, a generic fantasy villain is going to return to their lair only to discover it's become a smoking pile of rubble, and that promise alone is enough to keep me on board. Like that scene in GATE where they carpet bomb an evil dragon, but with significantly less jingoism.

I spent about an hour searching through YouTube for a specific remix of 'Take it Off' by Ke$ha that I was like 85% sure I hadn't hallucinated. That's already a pretty tough position to justify taste-wise, but when I finally found it with this title/cover art, I knew I was really in for it.

And then, at the end of the day, it still somehow hits. After 3 hours of following similar recommended video trails, my YouTube algorithm is completely poisoned, but I'm not ashamed. I think the real takeaway is that there are only 3 kinds of people-

1) Those who never had a broody anime cover nightcore era (and who must now be appropriately educated) 2) Those who 'got over it' (Liars who must be freed from their shame) 3) The people responsible for bringing groups 1 and 2 into the extremely edgy fold.

And not 20 minutes later I'm in up to my elbows. Hinges? reusable cable clips? This thing was secretly begging to be opened. And with a 1 dollar part (plus 7 dollars in goddamn shipping) She'll be back to proper order in no time.

Did you know that all the generators on the power grid are spinning in sync with each other? The grid has a heartbeat and each and every machine connected to it must follow the rhythm. This includes the machines in your home! Your buzzing fridge compressor is beating in time with the same heart.

If you have pronounced veins and are feeling weird about them, or just need a ego boost in general, consider donating blood. You get 1) To do a genuine good for very little effort on your part 2) 20-30 minutes of compliments from nurses about how great of a patient you are 3) Cookies

I'm not going to pretend that LASIK is anything other than a top tier acronym. It has a sub-acronym, a Latin loan phrase, and a fancy Greek compound verb. But it doesn't make me giggle the way hearing the procedure described as 'laser glasses removal' does.

The Pacific Rim engineers that spent weeks building a 30-foot bowie knife for a mech suit to draw from its ankle sheath must have been muttering β€œHell yeah” the whole time

I occasionally 3d print new things whose primary purpose is to keep my hands occupied while sitting at my desk. The cardboard box with a (plastic) knife stabbed through it sitting next to my computer suggests the underlying emotion behind that need may have shifted.

You are up to date.
