It's really amazing how a vehicle that a person can propel using nothing other than the power of their own muscles has been deemed by the right as weak, effete or "un-masculine." It's also amazing how much people who don't use bicycles obsess about other people using them.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

Great accomplishment for UH Womens Soccer!

Houston now has as many Big 12 wins this year (5) as they had in their first three years in the Big 12 combined

This is just awful. There are already too many seedy gas station/convenience stores in this part of Midtown. This is an extremely poor use of land so close to a light rail station, and a guaranteed homeless hangout the day it opens. 🤮

Eastbound and Down. The last season was completely unnecessary and caused me to refuse to watch anything else with Danny McBride in it.

Astros winning the AL West with a .500 record:

I feel like this is just the result of the Astros hitting themselves in the face with a 2 x 4 a couple times less than the Rangers and 10 or 15 times less than the Mariners.

damn if only the Trump administration didn’t spend the past two years trying to defund and destroy our public transit networks

the fact that the NTSB is conducting a federal safety investigation of the helicopter crash, but nobody is going to do anything about the original deadly car crash, really shows just how few fucks our country gives about every day traffic violence that kills 40k people every year

When your state is DFL in the nation in crime, education and infrastructure and you have nothing else to tweet about…

Sassy remark from LSU's wannabe athletic director

Heh… Listening to FSU fans boo their coach for his playcalling reminds me of the bad old days when Houston fans (the fee of us who attended the games back then) booed Kim Helton when he called three consecutive draw plays.

about 60% of your atoms are hydrogen atoms, whose nuclei mostly originated in the Big Bang. Most of *you* predates Earth by about nine billion years. More than half of you is as old as the universe.

If you’re in DC, do yourself a favor and go see the Photo Ark exhibit at the National Geographic Museum of Exploration.

Houston kicks off against Oregon State at 11 am this Saturday; it’s going to be in the 90s with high humidity and a lot of people won’t be there. The takeaway from the usual suspects will be “NoBoDy WaTcHEs CoUgAr HiGh” with no acknowledgement that football shouldn’t be played in such conditions.

The USC empty seats thing is a reminder that moving the entire season further into August next year is going to create even more heat advisory situations. I also don't think most people are mentally ready for widespread football before Labor Day. www.nytimes.com/athletic/755...

The main reason I unfollow people on this site is not because they post things I disagree with but because they post (and re-post) too goddamn much.

About 7 or 8 years ago I saw a good Hasan post and I followed him for about a week. Then I decided he posted too often and was taking over my feed so i unfollowed. I don’t see why this needs to be more complicated than that? He’s a fucking twitch streamer. He is not important!

Oh, fuck The Woodlands. If they want to keep form being annexed, they should incorporate and become a real municipality, rather than a bullshit “Township” that depends on obscure special taxing districts and Montgomery County for most of its services.

Houston Public Media@houstonpublicmedia.bsky.social

The city of Houston would agree to not absorb the sprawling Woodlands Township as part of a $50 million agreement considered by the city council on Wednesday.

When I was in DC last month I saw a bunch of National Guard doing little more than standing around looking bored. A few of them along the Mall took on the role of unofficial tourguides directing sightseers where to do, but overall this deployment seems like a waste of their time and our money.

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

Trump's deployment of National Guardsmen to DC to fight crime was in fact a big and expensive political show—a review found the soldiers rarely play a meaningful role of any sort in battling crime, which in any event, had witnessed record lows before the Guardsmen were deployed.

Traffic engineers are generally clueless. (I work with them. I know.)
