I don’t know what else to say other than our president is a complete joke. And I say that coming from a perspective of sadness and depression, not vitriol.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "CNN & MSDNC’s Ratings have dropped considerably. The primary reason is NO CREDIBILITY! They only write badly about a man who won the Election IN A GIANT LANDSLIDE... & whose Popularity has grown because of the unprecedented SUCCESS our Country is having on both the World Stage, and at home."

TFW you make the opposition’s point for them. Yeah, it’s getting hot af but are you dead *yet*? I think not! Hoax, bitches.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

manifestly unfit. asking this guy to be president is like asking your toddler to drive you to work. it ain't gonna turn out well.

A better summary for why the rule is there in the first place will probably not be found.

Bill Grueskin@bgrueskin.bsky.social

Honey, guess what? What, sweetie? The FBI just offered me a job! No! I thought they’d rejected you five times. I know, but something changed. Have no idea what it is, but I start Monday!

Turns out the energy market had not priced in the possibility that a president would actually be dumb enough to take up Bibi on his evergreen proposal. I’m sure Trump and Bessent have ruined many a position and vaporized a lot of money but at least they can say r***d.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Nailed it as always, sir

What’s bullshit with this question is first she couches it as important because voters are concerned. After he stomps on her, she justifies the question by saying “Republicans are heavily attacking you so it’s clearly something you want to engage on.” They just want the bad faith culture chum.

Micah@rincewind.run

you don’t have to have the conversation on their terms and in fact you shouldn’t have the conversation on their terms more democrats should follow this playbook instead of existing in a constant defensive crouch

It should be a 5-alarm fire in the media that the president is saying this. Turning off trade would completely wreck the economy but he thinks it’s a viable option. This guy is a complete fucking moron but nobody seems to be willing to point this out. Ds apparently think it would be gauche.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "I know more about formulas than anybody"

This guy is so stupid he can’t see that the Chinese love him because he’s hastening the decline of the US. They’re not shy of saying that. Of course nobody will tell him what the Chinese have said and would dismiss it if they did.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on heels of reports that China helped Iran kill US soldiers: "We have a great relationship. We're gonna get along. China has been I think very fair with us over the last number of years that I've been there."

I think it’s quite likely the prisoner’s dilemma dynamic is at work here. Tons of money in these companies and those investors exert massive pressure for returns. “Too much money at stake to slow down.” If you think the concerns are bunk, who cares? If you don’t, it may require the govt to…

Puff the Magic Hater@mskellymhayes.bsky.social

Y'all know my theory. I think this is about these products hitting a wall in terms of their actual utility or advancement, and these fuckers being able to say, "It's an intentional slowdown to protect humanity, and our work is essential to all humans and should be bailed out/subsidized."

step in and break the dynamic. Not with money but with oversight and regs. Bailout is the same ‘we can’t afford to lose’ (no regs) investor pressure’ but paired w/ ‘if we fail, the economy collapses’ The admin is totally in this camp. So ‘slow down’ doesn’t logically align w/a bailout angle.

Replying to @volts.wtf

What I took from that era is that there is nothing the Republican Party can do that's awful enough, disastrous enough, to bring it any real accountability, because the whole system is wired to defend & excuse it. The Trump Era has only made that more nakedly obvious.

The cognitive dissonance here… It’s not just that her entire person is a large set of contradictions, it’s that her followers completely overlook it as well (in addition to the fact the party pushes ‘traditional family roles’). Certainly not unheard of (‘evangelicals’ and Trump) but still bonkers.

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

For those still learning about Germany’s neo-Nazi AfD, here are the salient facts:

Ds should should embrace this attack. Hegseth is hollowing out the military in service of his insane machismo, culture wars, loyalty tests and incompetence. Trump’s lack of any empathy (‘small potatoes,’ Lincoln), Iran incompetence ties in too. Why fund incompetence? Fire, fix then fund.

Read this. One, it’s clear eyed. Two, there some real spot on descriptions of the man that are straight up bangers. As @grudgie.bsky.social says, it’s refreshing to see. It’s how the media should be talking about Trump as a fundamental framing of everything he says and does.

Taking Kharg isn’t the hard part, it’s keeping it. The forces on the island would be stationary targets with no means of defense. It’s what happened with our regional bases and why Bahrain was effectively abandoned.

Allison Gill@muellershewrote.com

Taking Kharg island would require a significant number of ground troops, but our stockpile is depleted, they’re running out of money to pay sailors, and all his generals have advised against continuing the war.

You have to read the entire series of posts. Honestly indistinguishable from parody.

Matthew Gertz@mattgertz.bsky.social

I dunno much about Maness or Anderson but Schlicter is a straight-up fascist who wants to among other things "use the law to ensure blue submission" and "imprison dissenters" to achieve the aim, "force them to be like us."

Non-concurs happen. I believe that. But, how often on average compared to now broken down by issue priority/materiality and how often to do you see 4 on an issue this material? Those are the metrics to measure to determine how big a fire this is (and has been in general). I’m thinking 5-alarm.

"the secretary sees them constantly"

What could slip by unnoticed is she classifies calling Trump a ‘dictator’ is an insult. Would calling Nick Fuentes a racist be an insult. The press has just been willfully blind to Trump’s authoritarianism and go so war as to contest anyone asserting it as reality.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Doug Ford on telling Trump to kiss his ass: "You gotta eventually stand up to someone who just continuously attacks our country and insults our country"

File a complaint from Liberia. Sure. And will some reporter *please* hit this guy with the stat about the number of claims of assault on ICE officers that are determined to be total lies? Is your 9000% number really just a byproduct of officers making false claims?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

asked about new reporting about ICE violently abusing detainees, Tom Homan immediately changes the topic to "threats against ICE officers"

The ‘military objectives’ lens is the absolutely wrong frame Welker (and a lot of the media) use. It allows the Rs to muddy the waters. War is an instrument to achieve policy objectives. The question is ‘have we achieved policy objectives?’ and clearly we haven’t. So, can we, when, at what cost?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WELKER: I hear you arguing the military objectives in Iran have been achieved. If that's the case, why can't the troops come home? TED CRUZ: Well, but, the troops are not, eh eh, active combat operations have largely ceased. There are occasional skirmishes.

This is a well known pattern and yet parties continually follow it. Adoption means validation. Rather than peel of voters, that mainstreaming leads to bleeding people who decide to buy the real thing, not the knockoff. Ds fall into this trap constantly.

NYC Enjoyer@nycenjoyer.bsky.social

MattY is too incurious to know much about French politics, but the UMP basically adopted his preferred policy positions ("moderate" on social and immigration issues to recapture far-right voters) and all it did was signal to voters that the FN was now an "acceptable" republican party.

He’s not technically wrong. 394 mm isn’t ‘empty’ but below 614 mm 20 yr historical avg, and 666 mm under Trump 1 (for valid reasons). The question he should be asked: if the spr was low, your intel said Iran wasn’t close to nukes and that the strait would close post attack, why did you start a war?

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

When Joe Biden left office there were 394 million barrels of oil in the SPR. Right now there are 289 million barrels of oil in the SPR.

Think about this argument: Canada is ripping off the US by abiding by the terms of a deal ‘negotiated’ and touted by Trump. No more! Unsophisticated negotiation tactics solely reliant on intimidation and coercion may work in NYC real estate but not here. But scorched earth ‘leverage,’ amirite?

Kevin Rothrock@kevinrothrock.me

"irritate people who he's negotiating with so he can get a better deal" amazing

Did more to end slavery like Donald Trump accidentally being one of the biggest catalysts for the adoption of clean and green energy?

Pat Sobkowski@patsobkowski.com

Okay. I very much look forward to reading this paper and/or hearing the lecture if it’s recorded.

“I want a president focused on being a construction manager” should be a statement every GOP shill and candidate should be asked if they agree with. Now, *I* would like the president to be focused on a laser pointer for the next 2+ years to diminish the damage he is inflicting but that’s just me.
