Oof, you really need to concentrate more when cycling in the dark. Fewer visual cues, bright headlights, and one irresponsible w⚓️ who was riding down the hill, with no lights, and a small child on a seat behind him. 🤦‍♀️

Ten minute walk home from the supermarket, and it's so windy that my eyes watered enough to remove all my moisturiser from my face. I will be actively resisting going back outside today.

Can't stop grinning: I finished in 1h49.02, 49th out of 56 runners. I was aiming for sub-1h50, having finished in 1h57.59 last time (2024). 😁

Ffs, my hay-fever, which was mostly gone at home, is back with a vengeance now that I'm somewhere where more plants are still flowering, even though we had quite spectacular rain this morning 🤧

Lollll, when we put the TV on in the hotel room it started up on the Babestation channel, so I made assumptions about the last person to stay here, but it turns out that it does that every time? Weird choice 🤔

I did my best not to start packing to go away too soon, but that has resulted in today being a series of messages to A going "Plug adapters!" "Swim shoes!" and other things which I didn't think of because I did it last night, after work, without having a run at it. 🙄

We're going away tomorrow*, so I'm busily packing and A... isn't. To be fair, he'll be wfh tomorrow, whilst I am at the library, so he can do it then, but it doesn't help the process! 😎

*Again, yes, I know, but this is the last holiday this year! Unless we organise something else, and this one involves a 10k trail run up the side of a volcano!

MASSIVE web across the path leading to the front door this afternoon. Shame I broke it before I realised it was there, but I did apologise to the spider!

Today's cold status: propped up by caffeine, decongestants and sheer bloody-mindedness and dragging myself towards a (mercifully free, for once) weekend... 🤧

Oxford when the new students arrive reminds me of living in the countryside when they let all the young pheasants out and they have no sense of self preservation and just run into the road and get squashed, only it's me, on my bike, doing the squashing 😬

Gah, I've caught A's cold. Bleugh. He started with it at the weekend and seems to be getting better now, so hopefully I won't be suffering long, especially as we're off to Greece next week (again). 🤧

Ah, so it turns out that the 10k yesterday was actually 9.7k, because they measured it short 🤦‍♀️ Thing is, I knew my time was a bit quick, so I was already wondering 🤔 Ho hum, hopefully they'll do better next time!

There was almost certainly something beforehand, but I remember listening to a radio play about a lost spaceship where the crew resorted to cannibalism to survive whilst staying in a remote Welsh cottage in the middle of nowhere and being too scared to sleep. 😬

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

Getting up at 0630 on a Sunday is never fun, but I got an excellent time for the 10k race, A did well in the half, and we've got the rest of the day to mooch about and eat ice cream and things. 😎

Shoutout to A for totally leaning into the October vibes by sending me an email asking "what should I do with these apples...?" 🧙‍♀️🍎

No, it's OK! I've had a bit of A Morning, but it's sorted now. Like I say, I don't usually bother, but I know someone who's vulnerable at the moment and I figured it was the least I could do to prevent unnecessary infection.

Trying to book a flu jab with a voucher from work. Login didn't work on corporate account. I have spoken to 4 different people and listened to 2 different lots of hold music (the second was Mozart). 45 minutes! And I still have to wait for someone to call me back. #headdesk

Finished the second draft of book 3 in my alien romance trilogy this evening, which was a procrastination exercise so I didn't have to stress about finishing off the tweaks to book 1 and finding someone to read it 😬 #amwriting

My only contribution to the Fairford discourse is to be glad that a family member of mine who works there as an external contractor is now relocated to somewhere else until the threat level is reduced. 😬

If anyone needs any seriously batshit Christmas decorations, John Lewis have some really weird things this year, including bejewelled whales, skateboarding sharks and a golden grasshopper. No, I don’t know either 🤷‍♀️

Heavens sake, just use citric acid like a normal person, you lunatic 🙄

Today was the day I descale the kettle. I do it by unplugging it and bashing a spoon against the inside until the scale falls off. Then I gather it up and use it as a lovely little crunchy snack between meals for the next couple of weeks.

Trying and failing to resist the urge to find some pretty self-striping yarn so I can make another pair of legwarmers. My current cardigan project is huge and thus not portable, but I might have opportunities for smaller things on our various travels over the next month or so. 🧶

The shortlived Qin dynasty produced a wealth of richly coloured art, something the successor Han dynasty was never quite able to match, thanks to poor Han-dye coordination.

Does anyone know when they're going to finish the river path between Iffley Lock and Donnington Bridge? Abingdon Road was horrible this morning and I want to be able to cycle up the river again! (Diversion is too lumpy).

My good deed for today was warning the young man in the Parks that I had seen his dog rolling in something as I ran past. From the expression on his face, this was not an unusual occurrence, but he did thank me!

Running up the ring road on my way home earlier, I remembered the chap who did the Oxford Half in 2013 dressed as a tree. He was campaigning for rainforest conservation, but his costume was a bit fragile, so I just followed this trail of leaves until I overtook him in Sandford. 🍂🍃🌿🪾

Off to Wales for a few days with my Mum today. The caravan site has almost no mobile signal, and that is one of the best things about it. A few days not being able to doomscroll for hours always makes me feel better.

New horror unlocked this morning when I showed A one of the prunes in my breakfast to demonstrate how they removed the stone and he said "that's where the worm came out". So that's overnight oats ruined, anyway. 🤢🪱

In a pub (A wanted to watch the football), which doesn't have beer mats. It's so warm that I'm having to lean ridiculously to drink from my glass, so that the condensation doesn't soak me as it drips in copious quantities. 😐

Put off going for my run to listen to the rest of the cricket 🏏 Great result for England, but yesterday was a brilliant day. I'm so glad we were there to see it. #ENGvPAK
