For #NationalVeterinaryTechnicianWeek, we’re celebrating the dedicated wildlife rehabilitation technicians who care for birds in need. Thank you to the entire wildlife care team for the heart they bring to helping birds get a second chance!

When IBR volunteer Scott Barker rescued a struggling Common Murre while surfing in Ventura, he did more than save one bird. His viral Instagram video reached hundreds of thousands, raising awareness of the ongoing starvation crisis affecting murres. Read and watch: www.birdrescue.org/a-surfers-cl...

Our volunteers have been busy making a flock of handcrafted tern puppets for the celebration and there's another special tern making its debut...our "Emerald Edition" tern T-shirt - a special emerald-colored version of our classic shirt. Jubilee guests will be the first to buy this limited stock!

A hook, a line, and one very lucky little grebe. This young Pied-billed Grebe arrived with fishing line and a hook lodged inside its digestive tract, a life-threatening injury for such a small bird. Our team removed both without surgery, giving this resilient patient a second chance to heal.

After a successful weekend of coastal cleanups, his story is a powerful reminder of why these efforts matter. What we leave behind can have serious consequences for wildlife. Please always pick up what you bring with you and safely dispose of any litter you find to help keep our waterways safe.

Every action matters for birds. This #CoastalCleanupDay, Bird Rescue is teaming up with community members and local partners across California to care for the places birds call home. Join us this Saturday and lend a hand for the birds!

Common Murres were one of the species affected by a CA starvation event that occurred earlier this year, and this may be occurring again. Since August 15, we've received 68 murres, with most showing signs of worn, broken, excessively weathered feathers. More at: www.birdrescue.org/uptick-in-st...

“Not having the energy to grow new feathers is kind of like not having enough money to buy a new wetsuit and having to use a ratty old one with lots of holes in a cold ocean,” said Dr. Rebecca Duerr, Senior Director of Research and Veterinary Science.

Seabirds rely on healthy feathers to stay warm, waterproof, buoyant, and able to swim and fly. But when food is scarce, they may not have enough energy to replace worn feathers during their annual molt, and if not replaced on time, they can have problems surviving.

The choices we make can shape whether species have the space, resources, and conditions they need to survive and thrive. This #NationalWildlifeDay, take a moment to consider what you can do to make the world a little safer for the wildlife sharing it with us.

Birds don’t smoke. ...but this young Great Blue Heron still ended up with a cigarette in its mouth. Something as small as a cigarette butt can become a hazard when it’s discarded and left behind. Help protect birds by keeping litter out of the places they live and forage

From tiny tot to fully baked potato.🥔 We’re celebrating this Western Gull chick who arrived at Bird Rescue with a fractured femur. Thanks to expert care and this little bird’s resilience, they’re now standing, walking, and keeping up with the other gull chicks in care. #NationalPotatoDay
