Your source for pics of Chad the dog. Talking about the Sounders and MLS

Good to know that fouls that occur after a shot has been taken are now given as PKs. That’s never been the case in MLS, so good to know that it’s different from Oct 24, 2026 and onward.

A very 2024 Sounders second half, with lots of danger and possession around the box and no player with the ability to beat a defender on his own.

It’s incredible how much more effective Morris is as a forward in the right half space than as a winger in hell on the left wing with Nouhou.

That was as much of an absolutely-nothing-worked half as we’ve seen from the Sounders since the losing streak. I’d expect quite a few tactical and personnel changes at half.

Jordan Morris playing as a 2nd forward running in the right half space has been so, so good. He’s making this attack work right now.

RIP sea arch. I’ll always remember that December morning when it was just you and me watching the sun rise

The Hōlei Sea Arch in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park has collapsed, according to the National Park Service. It collapsed between September 23rd and September 27th while the park was temporarily closed during the Tropical Storm Nolo.

Sounders needed +9 from this 3 game home stand and got exactly that. The stretch run gets more challenging- 5 of their final 7 games against teams above them in the standings.

The Seattle area just showed we are a top market for soccer in the country at the World Cup. The low-spending Sounders, in a league of Messi and Son, are still top 3 in league streaming viewership and attendance. The owner’s biggest idea is moving to a 25k seat stadium in a Renton business park.

Sounder at Heart@sounderatheart.com

The Sounders held their Annual Business Meeting on Saturday. The biggest topic of discussion was around the possibility of moving to Renton. We discussed it all here: www.sounderatheart.com/2026/09/key-...

Kudos for being honest, I guess, but I’m extremely bummed out by how far the owner’s vision has fallen, in a time when the Sounders’ potential for growth is so massive. And instead, they are shrinking.

No, Adrian. Bad changes suck. Moving the club to a small suburban stadium sucks, and the fanbase doesn’t want it. I’m not interested in becoming the Renton Business Park Sounders.

Sounder at Heart@sounderatheart.com

Hanauer: “It’s not a done deal by a long stretch but it is something we need to explore. I get it. I know change sucks. I’m one of those people who believes change sucks. I know there’s a chance we’d lose some fans, but I don’t believe we’d lose all of your … I hope. We’ll have to convince you.”

Tonight is as much of a must-win game as the Sounders will have until (if) they face mathematical elimination. At home, vs a conference opponent in free fall missing 10 guys, with the annual business meeting in 3 days. Win, or the conversation becomes extremely awkward this week.

Availability report for tonight.

Just in case the FO’s decision to punt all year on the winger position needed to be more thoroughly exposed, here you go.

Jeremiah Oshan@jeremiah.sounderatheart.com

Brian Schmetzer says ‘you’re not going to believe this’ but Paul Rothrock is out 8-10 weeks with a right hamstring injury.

This is a really important summary of the Sounders’ current front office struggle. Hanauer’s refusal to let the people he’s hired work within a set budget means the team is functionally being locked out of the international transfer market. That’s simply not sustainable.

The Sounders made their best summer signing in almost a decade, but the overall window still fell a bit short of expectations. We assess what happened. www.sounderatheart.com/2026/09/what...

If the front office’s overarching plan was to sell young talent to fund higher level contributors, that hasn’t happened yet. And if the allocation money they earned in those sales becomes largely useless in a new salary cap structure next year, they’ve played themselves.

The Sounders in 2025 had their highest-scoring, most fun offense in their last decade on the backs of a dynamic and deep winger corps. They declined one (Kent), sold another (Georgi), and lost Pedro to two long-term injuries. And then didn’t replace any of them. Nuts.

A warm body to compete with Seb Gomez I guess. Maybe they get lucky and he shows more than that.

Jeremiah Oshan@jeremiah.sounderatheart.com

This was a definite backup plan but Clark has some upside, albeit with baggage if repeated failures.

Progress for the Sounders. They desperately need a LW signing, but Joveljic immediately helps. Defensively, it’s going to be tough with Yeimar and Ragen both out. And Jordan Morris played, didn’t get hurt, and didn’t get put on the left side. Progress.

On the plus side, the Sounders signed a 27-year-old striker. On the negative side, they extended their declining #10 through age 34. In the new salary cap, that might be a good trade-off. Let’s see if they can fix their biggest hole at winger and go outside the league to cap this window.

The Sounders field a starting lineup with a combined salary of $1.8 million, the salary of a single max-TAM player in 2026. Congrats, Adrian! You did it! You found the most efficient roster-spend starting 11! Come collect your prize.

What makes Sounders discourse so pointless and confounding is that any argument leads to the same conclusion: there is one way to fix this and it’s to spend money on good players. Unfortunately there is only one person who needs to hear this argument and he doesn’t seem interested.

Through a mix of procrastination and bad luck, the Sounders are at the point where all three of their DPs under contract really shouldn’t be DPs anymore. ~7 of their top 10 salaries are imbalanced relative to health and production. This team is on the path toward a full tear down and rebuild.

I dunno man, I think a TAM signing or two might actually help the team more than the veteran backup goalkeeper having a good showing as the squad is eliminated in the Leagues Cup group stage.

Sounder at Heart@sounderatheart.com

Schmetzer: “There’s a lot of storylines … Stef may have been the goalkeeper of the tournament. He showed everyone he’s fucking good at what he does. That’s the example you want. That will take this franchise farther than any TAM signing… It will take us a long way.”

Well, that was a spririted match between Tacoma Defiance and Chivas. Though lacking quality, the development side played with real energy. Unrelated, you know what would be great? The Seattle Sounders signing some new adult players so that they didn’t look dead on their feet half the time.

The FO has been aiming at these just-out-of-budget level players for several summers now, and has come up empty each time. But they can't afford another miss this year.

There are apparently real negotiations ongoing for Casper Tengstedt. www.sounderatheart.com/2026/08/soun...

Old players $500 New players $0 Rent $800 Barge $3,000,000 Real Estate $500,000,000 Staff $300 someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. my soccer team is dying

Forward wouldn’t be my top position to target unless they can move Morris or Moose, but it’s nice to see them at least thinking about an international TAM-level signing. In ~1500 minutes in Serie A in the ‘24-‘25 season, his numbers don’t pop, but 🤷‍♂️

Jeremiah Oshan@jeremiah.sounderatheart.com

Nice to at least see a name associated with Casper Tengstedt. His Per 90 numbers look a lot better than raw stats. Nice work by @elrolonw.bsky.social

The craziest part about this is the Sounders had been REALLY good at adding high-quality foreign talent. There’s no competitive reason why it makes sense to just quit doing that. It’s not as if their hit rate on domestic additions has been better.

Jeremiah Oshan@jeremiah.sounderatheart.com

There are a lot of stats you can point to that illustrate the Sounders’ struggles. To me, the most glaring is that all 16 players they used on Saturday were developed through Defiance or came to them through MLS. They’ve effectively abandoned foreign signings. www.sounderatheart.com/2026/07/post...

The reason that “spending doesn’t correlate to wins” has always been a fatuous statement for the Sounders is that while it is true for MLS in general, it’s never been true for the Sounders. This team’s success has always been built on significant, targeted spending from Dempsey to Lodeiro to Raul.

It’s not Waibel’s style, but he should think about publicly shaming ownership for lack of resources like Garth did back in 2018 to get Adrian to pony up some money to buy Ruidiaz. Maybe Adrian fires him. But if you’re going to get fired by the fans in a few months anyway, why not?

This lineup has very “US Open Cup Round of 16” vibes to it, but outside of Ferreira (who the fitness staff seemingly doesn’t trust to play a 3-game week) there aren’t many options. Also, Nouhou being captain is bizarre.

Maybe the issue with the Sounders’ trajectory is that they no longer have a clear organizational goal. For years it was “win our first MLS Cup.” Then “win CCL and be the best team in North America.” Now the only articulable goal seems to be “run a productive enough academy to be competitive.”

The former goals demanded a certain level of spending. The current goal demands nothing from ownership as long as this team scrounged enough talent together to make the playoffs.

Nouhou captaining a 3-1 collapse after captaining the worst 5-1 collapse in the 50 year history of the Sounders-Timbers rivalry has many people asking- is it time to rethink Nouhou as captain?

Mark Kastner@mkstnr.bsky.social

It's not the most important thing but it is embarrassing that Nouhou has the armband.

I hope this stretch isn’t the end for Schmetzer, because while he’s had his struggles, I think this is mostly on an aging and neglected roster.
