iphoneincanada.caCanada’s Privacy Watchdog Opens Probe Into Crime Stoppers Tip BreachCanada's privacy watchdog is opening a probe into a cybersecurity incident that hit tip records held for Crime Stoppers programs across the country, the latest reminder that the apps and platforms Canadians use on their phones can expose sensitive personal information when a vendor gets breached. The pattern will sound familiar to readers who followed recent Telus account access issues and other Canadian data incidents this year. Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne has started an investigation into Navigate360, the commercial company that provides and manages the tip management platform used by Canadian Crime Stoppers chapters, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada said in a release on Tuesday.

iphoneincanada.caSkip the New iPad mini? The Old One Is on Clearance for $699 in CanadaStaples Canada is clearing out the previous-generation iPad mini for $699 CAD, just as Apple's new model starts at $949 CAD. That is about $250 less for a compact tablet that still runs Apple Intelligence and works with Apple Pencil Pro. The listing covers the Wi-Fi, 128 GB Purple model with the 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display and A17 Pro chip. Staples shows a compare-at price of $849.99 CAD, so the cut from its own recent regular price is about $150. Stock is available online as of October 27, 2026, though clearance quantities can move fast.

iphoneincanada.caFido Autopay Discount Ends for Regular Credit Cards in NovemberFido customers are getting emails about a change that hits the $5 monthly Automatic Payments discount. A copy of the notice shared on Reddit says that after November 20, 2026, the discount only sticks if the bill is paid by pre-authorized debit from a bank account or with a Rogers Bank credit card. Any other credit card can still be used for auto-pay, but the $5 off goes away. The timing lands just ahead of the 1.6 per cent credit card processing charge Rogers and Fido plan to add on January 17, 2027.

iphoneincanada.caCanada Wants Off SpaceX, but Its Satellites Have No Other Way UpCanada has spent months talking about diversifying away from Starlink, but its own satellite makers still need SpaceX rockets to reach orbit. SpaceX closing Falcon 9 bookings after 2028 makes that harder to escape. Tesla North reported that SpaceX has stopped taking new Falcon 9 bookings beyond 2028 as it shifts customers to Starship, citing The Logic. Canada has no medium-lift rocket ready to fill the gap, and the cutoff became a major talking point last week at SpaceBound in Gatineau, Quebec. Telesat is the clearest example. Its Lightspeed constellation, which includes an Arctic military layer tied to a $2.3 billion CAD federal contract, needs 225 satellites in orbit, and those launches are booked on SpaceX before the Falcon phaseout.

That shift hints the trim may return from Fremont once orders reopen, though Tesla has not confirmed any change in sourcing. The earlier Canadian page showed 463 km and 6.2 seconds, the slower Shanghai Premium RWD package. As Tesla North reported, the new figures sit on the Model 3 Premium Specs page with Rear-Wheel Drive selected, alongside a curb weight of 1,745 kg.

iphoneincanada.caWhat Happened When Humans Folded an iPhone Duo 75,000 TimesAn iPhone Duo folded by hand about 75,000 times has finally given out, and the failure was in the hinge rather than a spontaneous screen crack. Creator Kuba Klawiter documented the experiment in a video posted Monday. Viewers in Poland took turns folding a retail 256 GB Duo for an hour at a time on a livestream, on the idea that a phone built for people should be stressed by people, not only by machines. At a pace of 50 folds a day, he notes, 75,000 cycles would be a bit more than four years of normal use.

iphoneincanada.caWhy Brand-New iPhone Duos Are Getting Green Lines in One SpotFresh reports of cracked iPhone Duo screens now have a teardown to go with them. It points at a specific hinge part as the reason some brand-new units are developing green lines and cracks in the same spot on the inner display. Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything opened up an iPhone Duo in a new video posted Monday, after those owner complaints started circulating. He argues dust getting into the hinge and a failing hinge component are two separate problems that can both wreck the folding screen. Nelson says unused Duos he never handled have started showing green lines in identical places.

iphoneincanada.caOttawa May Pull Roblox Into Its Kids Social Media BanCanada's digital safety bill may yet reach gaming platforms after all. Identity Minister Marc Miller told The Globe and Mail he would consider adding child-safety rules for services such as Roblox and Discord, which sit outside Ottawa's plan to lock kids under 16 out of social networks, tabled in June. Bill C-34, also called the Safe Social Media Act, would force regulated social networks to keep accounts away from anyone under 16, unless a new safety watchdog grants an exemption once stronger safeguards are in place. Child-safety groups have warned that kids and adults still mix freely on gaming and chat apps the bill does not treat as social media.

Apple's new 2026 iPad mini is a substantial upgrade over the 2024 model, bringing an OLED display, A20 Pro chip, thinner design and water resistance. But Canadians will also pay more for it. The new iPad mini starts at $949 CAD, compared with the outgoing A17 Pro model's most recent regular price of $849. That's a $100 increase, although the older mini originally launched at $679 in October 2024. iphoneincanada.caiOS 27.2 for iPhone Is Out Now, Minus One Feature You Were ExpectingApple has released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 to everyone today, one week after the release candidate went out to developers. The update brings Siri AI to five more languages, including French, along with profiles in the Apple TV app and smaller changes across Apple's own apps. It's also the first feature update for most iPhones since iOS 27 arrived in September. Apple skipped iOS 27.1 on everything except the iPhone Duo, which shipped with that version. What's new in iOS 27.2 Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (for both Portugal and Brazil) and Spanish, after launching in English only.

iphoneincanada.caLaw Professor Fights Telus Plan to Make Telecom Complaints Harder to FileTelus wants Canadians to show paperwork before Canada's telecom complaints watchdog will take their case, and a University of Ottawa law professor is pushing back. Marina Pavlović, an expert in consumer protection, argues the idea would leave customers at the mercy of their own carrier, the Toronto Star reports. In an October 7 CRTC submission, Telus urged that the CCTS turn away cases unless people can show written proof they reached a second tier of support. Today, customers need to give their provider a fair shot at fixing things, with no evidence required.

After TechRax dropped the iPhone Duo down a 200-foot spiral staircase and JerryRigEverything's durability test showed dirt can wreck the hinge, the longtime drop tester put Apple's $2,999 phone through its paces on Saturday. What sets PhoneBuff apart is the robotic drop machine the channel has used for years. It lets the phones fall side by side from the same height at the same angle, so the comparison is repeatable rather than a toss of the hand.

iphoneincanada.caOne Part of the iPhone Duo Survived TechRax’s 200-Foot Stair DropsFew YouTubers have been wrecking new iPhones longer than TechRax, one of the original iPhone destroyers on the platform, and the brand new iPhone Duo was never going to escape his launch-week treatment. His yearly abuse of Apple's latest hardware has become an almost cruel tradition for every new iPhone. This time, the $2,999 foldable was dropped down a towering spiral staircase twice, with no protective case. According to the TechRax video, posted on Friday evening, he picked up the device as a day one walk-in purchase without a pre-order, much like the readers who told us about…

iphoneincanada.caiPhone Duo Teardown Finds Two Batteries and One Big Repair HeadacheApple's first foldable iPhone has now been opened up on camera, just one day after the iPhone Duo arrived in stores. What's inside is a mix of pleasant surprises for repair shops and one very expensive weak spot. Phone Repair Guru, the repair-focused YouTube channel with more than six million subscribers, took the Duo apart in a new video posted on Saturday. The teardown goes all the way down to the inner folding display, which the host admits he wasn't sure would survive the process. Two batteries, and the phone runs on either one…

iphoneincanada.caA Handful of Dirt Was All It Took to Break This iPhone DuoApple's first foldable has now been through JerryRigEverything's scratch, burn and bend routine, and the newly launched iPhone Duo did not make it out alive. A handful of dirt was enough to jam the hinge so the phone could no longer close, and a bend test later left the inner display with permanent green lines before it stopped responding to touch altogether. That's a rough result for a device that carries some of the most expensive repair prices Apple has ever charged. Zack Nelson shared the results in a new…

iphoneincanada.caYETI’s First iPhone Case Hands-On: The Best Part Isn’t the ProtectionA while back, we covered YETI's first iPhone case when it launched in Canada, and the company has since sent one over for me to check out. It's called the LoadOut Phone Case, and the version I have fits both the iPhone 17 Pro Max and this year's 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max. On the box, YETI promotes 3X protection and a built-in kickstand. Once it's on your phone, the case feels substantial, and it offers increased protection if you work in an environment where you might drop your iPhone.

iphoneincanada.caTelus Says No CCTS Surcharge, Customer Says You’re Still PayingCanadians already cover the cost of the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS) through their monthly phone and internet bills, argues telecom customer Marc Nanni, even though the complaints agency is regularly described as free. Nanni filed a procedural request with the CRTC last week in the regulator's review of how customers are told about the CCTS, the same proceeding where Telus wants written proof before complaints are accepted. Nanni wants the regulator to require that the CCTS cost be shown as a line item on every bill, according to copies received by…

iphoneincanada.caiPhone Duo Launch Lines in Canada Had a Surprise for Walk-In BuyersApple warned that walk-in supply of the iPhone Duo would be tight on launch day, but readers who lined up at Apple Stores across the country this morning are telling a more encouraging story. Several people who replied to iPhone in Canada on X said they walked out with Apple's $2,999 foldable, even after waiting behind dozens of other shoppers. Earlier this week, Apple confirmed limited iPhone Duo walk-in stock for Friday and said it expected supply to sell out quickly. With online orders showing February 2027 delivery dates, a store lineup was the only realistic way for most people to get one today.

iphoneincanada.caCarney Says Ukraine’s Starlink Slowdown Shows Risk Canada Wants to AvoidPrime Minister Mark Carney says the slowdown of SpaceX's military satellite service in Ukraine came with a human cost, and he's pointing to it as another reason Ottawa wants to diversify away from Starlink and other single suppliers of critical technology. Carney made the remarks on Friday, October 23, at a press conference in Istanbul, as first reported by Tesla North. A reporter asked whether he was worried about Elon Musk's apparent ability to limit Ukraine's defences. Carney said that however the decision came about, there was clearly a slowdown with "real consequences," including casualties, as Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities continue.

iphoneincanada.caGrok Bot Can Now Use Your iPhone’s Apps, but Not iMessage YetGrok Bot can now reach into the built-in apps on your phone. The official Grok Bot account announced on October 22 that the assistant can use Calendar, Reminders, Contacts and "more apps," and said the feature is rolling out now on iOS and Android. It arrives just days after Grok Bot picked up support for the iPhone Action Button. The announcement graphic lists six apps, each with its own Allow button. Messages is described as "Read and send messages," Location as "Find places near you," Calendar as "See your day and add events," Home as "Control lights, locks and more," Reminders as "Set and check reminders" and Contacts as "Find and add contacts." Nothing turns on until you tap Allow, so you decide which apps Grok Bot can touch.

iphoneincanada.caRogers Lost Fee Revenue to the CRTC Ban and Now Wants to Offset the HitRogers posted its third quarter results on Friday, with record free cash flow even as wireless sign-ups slowed sharply and the average monthly phone bill kept sliding. Total revenue rose 2 per cent to $5.44 billion, while adjusted EBITDA grew 1 per cent to $2.54 billion. Free cash flow jumped 65 per cent to $1.37 billion, helped by the spending cuts announced in April, with capital spending down 46 per cent to $524 million. On the wireless side, Rogers added just 6,000 postpaid phone customers, compared to 62,000 a year ago, plus 11,000 prepaid.
