It’s #invisibledisabilitiesweek and I am a nonprofit executive director with chronic illness. This post is in honor of @irms.bsky.social interns who were dealing with health struggles, & said knowing that I have Crohn’s Disease and accomplished so much opened up the options they saw for themselves.

Our registration page states we provide support for financial hardship, but I want to emphasize our commitment to reaching beyond “Western” voices that dominate extremism and radicalization studies. Email contact@theirms.org to request support for our male supremacism studies conference or courses.

I want to elevate to interested participants in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East that we provide scholarships for financial need. Some of our presenters flagged that the registration can be prohibitive in certain countries due to the USD exchange rate.

Why would some women support misogynist movements? I discussed for this article how such women see themselves as different from the women these ideologies demonize. “It gives them status and elevates them over the oppression they would otherwise face.” But this is an imagined distinction.

Drew Harwell@drewharwell.com

New: She was a foot soldier for Nick Fuentes. Then his movement turned on her. Inspired by tradwives, Amy Dangerfield worked to become one of his model “groypettes.” A vicious fight left her grappling with the dark side of far-right fame. wapo.st/4da9OTD

New chapter: In “On the outside always lurking in” IRMS fellow Allysa Czerwinsky reflects on years spent searching misogynistic incel forums as an openly queer woman. 🔗https://www.taylorfrancis.com/chapters/edit/10.4324/9781003671619-48/outside-always-lurking-allysa-czerwinsky

New this summer: our 6-week ‘Intro to Male Supremacism’ course opens to the public, addressing the roots of misogyny and transmisogyny. The session is from Aug 5 to Sept 15. Recommended for educators, journalists, researchers & more. Link: www.theirms.org/course-regis...

The course is designed to take students through understanding dehumanization and entitlement as building blocks of male supremacism (and other forms of supremacism), and their manifestation as anti-consent ideology, biological essentialism, and justification of #violence. #genderjustice #misogyny

This is followed by a session on #mentalhealth and #digitalsafety in doing work on this topic, harms and #misinformation to watch out for when it comes to common research and practice approaches to misogyny, and a final session where each student discusses application to their own work.

Their framing has been that anti-trans legislation and rulings, especially targeting transgender women, are about about protecting girls and women. It really a way to enforce biological essentialism through a scapegoated minority, and use that to expand to targeting cisgender girls and women.

Madison Pauly@msjpauly.bsky.social

The thing about that Heritage Center paper against women's sports is not just the hypocrisy, or even the blatant sexism. A real argument is building in the courts to toss the longstanding rules that have caused schools to expand girls' sports. The story: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

To improve access, IRMS will offer a limited number of partial scholarships for the summer intro to male supremacism course. Visit the course page on our website for information on applying for the scholarship: www.theirms.org/course-regis...
