You start a simple task, but end up moving mountains because review unearths related issues. Most of them are not important by any stretch, but you can't leave them now that you know that they exist. Since agents replicate patterns, I comfort myself that cleaning things up is good long term.

New ActiveCollab self-hosted release landed today: v8.0.399 πŸš€ Tasks have multiple assignees, each with their own estimate, for precise planning and workload management. Plus, an all-new text editor.

Customer asked for a way to remove notes from MCP, as they don't want for third parties (which Cloud models are) to have access to them. We added Restricted MCP Tools πŸ” Now you can disable whole tools or individual features of a tool (like fetching notes in get by ID tool).

Another day, another batch of improvements: πŸ” Passkeys let you have your cake and eat it too - secure AND fast sign in βš™οΈ Work with multiple assignees, each with their own estimate, with ActiveCollab's MCP server.

Agents let me quickly dig really deep. For rich link cards in the app, we need media card component in design system, and URL unfurling in the backend, with background processing, retries, SSRF hardening, rate limiting… Such detailed spec used to take a whole day, now an hour.

We began rollout of the updated text editor. Cloud only accounts at the moment. Please let us know if you notice anything broken or out of place. New editor means better foundation for new features. What would you like to see added or changed?

New MCP tool lands Monday: reorder πŸ”€ Just tell the agent how you want tasks prioritized (by dependencies, sequence, or any order) and it will arrange them for you. PS: MCP is available for self-hosted accounts in v8.0.333, in case you missed it.

Pro tip: Click on user's workload summary for the day (color-coded number of available hours) to see how ActiveCollab came up with the number - meetings, tasks, estimates, all is there.

ActiveCollab 8 is available to customers with self-hosting licenses πŸš€ It brings 100+ new features and improvements (we stopped counting at 100). There is no area of the application that was not touched and improved by our team. Thank you for your continued support. πŸ™

Microsoft does it best. They start with "Microsoft is committed to improving your Microsoft 365 subscription", and then continue by saying that they are removing one service (no replacement), and one product (sort of replaced). How…? Never mind…

January 2024: "Year 2024. Is the final stage of the development of version 8, and we are looking to wrap it all up by the end of the year. As that milestone approaches, we would like to get more and more people involved, with your being one of the first to get an invite."

Trying to watch through the whole video, and I just can't because of idiocy of arguments in face of numbers. 1 in 10 to 1 in 5 people do use Firefox, his own quick poll shows a higher number, and he still doesn't get it. Not everyone cares about stuff he does. So simple, yet so hard to grasp?

Firefox is still here ? 😎 I created the first custom web browser with Gecko engine. I was so happy to switch to WebKit when Safari came to life. youtu.be/mmjUlFIaNLE?...

Been collecting and going through this type of data for over a decade, and this is one thing that I would rather NOT pay per usage. VPS with GrayLog and you are probably solving 95% of your problems with cost that you can manage and predict. When you make money, you can decide what to do next.

Building a SaaS product? Logs & traces can be a goldmine for understanding user behavior and spotting bugs early. Otelic.com makes it dead simple to collect, search, and analyze your logs & traces. Currently offering 50EUR in free credits to test it out. Just use code S1Z5RGKD5MSU at workspace.

A customer, commenting on ActiveCollab's ability to create invoices in QuickBooks based on time and expenses from projects: "I love that feature now that we switched to QuickBooks, it saves me so much time and it helps the bookkeeper know what’s going on!" πŸ’ͺ

Need to write an announcement post for a feature that landed in our Early Access Program (a mini dashboard to track project's progress). I think that "Best of QueensrΓΏche" will work just fine for the project πŸ‘Œ

For every FOMO argument, I can counter with a JOMO argument. It's much better to build on joy, then on fear. It may not be as profitable, but that's a separate discussion.

We used Slack for many years, but it was always on a free plan. Keeping it on a free plan was actually a feature, not a bug, and not just because of savings on subscription cost (we pay for a lot of software).

Also, not all knowledge should be written down in documents. I prefer a great chunk of documentation in a form of working software, whenever practical and possible. How to deploy the app? Make a CD pipeline. How to migrate data between accounts? Write an automation script.

Now we use chat built into #ActiveCollab. It's built for quick exchange, and chats, with no ambition to store all your business knowledge. It doesn't even have a search feature, now that I come to think of it 🀯 Maybe that's a feature?

We used Slack for many years, but it was always on a free plan. Keeping it on a free plan was actually a feature, not a bug, and not just because of savings on subscription cost (we pay for a lot of software).

Back then the key selling point of paid subscription was access and search through the full history. On free plan it was limited to some number of messages. I didn't want a searchable history, didn't need it.

For me, chat is for quick and temporal exchanges. If something should be documented, or saved, than it should be written down elsewhere. It's OK for such material to start in chat, but it should not be stored there. Copy it somewhere else.

Two concepts that provide a lot of leverage in software development: continous delivery, and slicing. First is sign of operational maturity, second that we can reliably spec, develop, and ship complicated software. Simple ideas, hard to put in place.

Saying farewell to the slopes πŸ‚ Tomorrow back in the (home) office. Our climate changed so much. If you want to experience winter and snow, instead of prolonged fall, you have to go to the mountains. It was not like that before.
