They had a good run. Howie is usually pretty good at figuring out when and how to pivot when it’s time to. Gotta trust that he can do it again.

I think the Saquon thing might be more egregiously stupid than what happened with Jalen? Like lower-stakes to be sure but it is insanely obvious this guy should not be playing in this game

This era of Flyers hockey may not end with a Cup but I will admit that their dedication to repeatedly stuffing the Anaheim Ducks into a toilet and giving them a swirly is very funny

if you’re going to the Flyers game today obviously you should boo William Gauthier as much as possible but it’s also important that Leo Carlsson gets a standing ovation every time he touches the puck. need to show some respect to the most important Flyer since Shay Webber

1 sub = 1 more shift Tocchet has to give Michkov, it’s in the contract

Kinda wild Dan Vladar gave up seven in the first game of the season and is already solidly back above >0 GSAx for the year before October’s out? Has been great.

I didn’t have a problem with sending Knuble down at the time. Something to be said IMO about not overreacting/drastically changing your priors off of one camp, and the forward depth looked fine at the time. But yes, very silly that he wasn’t your first call when it was clear you needed a change.

Charlie O'Connor@charlieoconn.bsky.social

In retrospect, it did not age well that the Flyers' reaction to watching Cole Knuble be their best forward in preseason was to send him to the AHL and then sign Garrett Wilson and Michael Bunting to NHL contracts as opposed to just giving Knuble the NHL job.

“I mean, when the fans gave us a standing ovation when we ended our nine-game losing streak back in ‘26, I knew what we had here was special” — Porter Martone on the Flyers’ 2034 Stanley Cup Champions DVD (do they still make those?)

Feels like Ray Ferraro had a moment there where he realized why we (Flyers fans) all have severe mental illness

Remember when once or twice a month Tippett would have one of those games where he looks like the best player in the NHL and you wonder how anyone ever defends him? Feel like he owes us five of those after this start

Steve Levy complaining on air about how he wants a power play to get called tells me he hasn’t watched a Flyers game in the last five years (which to be clear I love for him)

i had never been as sure of anything as I was that that dangerous Seattle chance four seconds after a momentum-shifting game-tying Flyers goal was going in the net

well the Flyers have moved their way up from “unironically and unequivocally one of the worst teams to start a season in the history of the league” to “getting outplayed by the Seattle Kraken but just like in a normal and not excessively embarrassing way” we should tell everyone and throw a party

I still think about this pretty much any time I see Shayne Gostisbehere on the screen for Carolina.

Kurt@itskurt.bsky.social

does anyone else ever think about that time when the Flyers played the Coyotes for the first time after trading Gostisbehere and TK yelled "HI SHAYNE" at Ghost during play and Ghost started laughing because I do.

I have time for the argument about kicking it into the end zone but like just don’t give up a 50-yard return.

Idk how much worse the odds are of a 20-yard completion that gets out of bounds are but either way it’s just “don’t do this thing that should be incredibly manageable to not do” and you did it.

What if the thing that turns around the season is just Jalen Carter having two healthy wrists.

One of those games where Carter decides that no one can block him all game may be one of the only feasible paths to an Eagles victory

Tom does a good job here laying out the bull case for the Bunting signing. He is a functional player at a time where this team is wildly dysfunctional. I just … I think this move is pissing me off more than it should be.

And if it’s a matter of just needing a new voice in the room … isn’t the whole central idea of this semi-rebuild that you’re supposed to have built precisely the kind of culture that shouldn’t need a guy like this brought in? And you’re panicking four (terrible) games into the season?

It just speaks to a foundation that is clearly more unstable than anyone involved wants to admit. For all the obviously valid concerns about this team’s ceiling, if you can’t keep the floor high with a team that you largely ran back, then I’m not sure what it is you’re accomplishing.

The Flyers (if you don’t count Martone) have a bottom-third-or-so prospect pool and the knock you always hear is that it lacks high-end talent. But if it doesn’t have someone handy that you think can match or exceed the likely contributions of a 31-y/o street free agent, whooooo boy that’s rough.

salute to a Super Bowl Champion forever but also howwwwwwwwwwwwww did you swing this lmao

The Eagles are trading Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Ravens in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and 2028 second-round pick, the team announced on Wednesday. Get live updates: www.inquirer.com/eagles/live/...

baseline Cam Jurgens is probably better than Drew Kendall and Willie Lampkin but I’m not sure we were ever seeing baseline Cam Jurgens again. happy for him he got paid before the dropoff, good for the Eagles making the most of the situation

THERE’S SOMEONE WORSE???? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?????

Sheil Kapadia@sheilkapadia.bsky.social

Based on success rate, this is the worst an Eagles offense has performed through the first four weeks of a season this century. They have gone 3-and-out on over 45% of their offensive possessions, which ranks 31st (only the Packers are worse).

yeah honestly the fourth down discourse is a distraction. head coach play caller and QB all had really brutal days today in a game that you somehow steal if just one of them does their job better. feels bad man.

Rich Hofmann@richhofmann.bsky.social

I know they were banged-up today (so was the Rams defense), but Sean Mannion, Jalen Hurts and the entire Eagles offense should be embarrassed about how bad they have been in second halves. Not even competitive.

offensive line also stunk but like you have one maaaaaaaybe two healthy starter(s) that you know isn’t bad there and you lost your best player two hours before the game so you can sort of understand how that happens. wonder what Jeff Stoutland is up to.

Basically this game is “what if Jalen Carter doesn’t sack Stafford at the end of the 2024-25 Divisional round”

You had to win one more game before the last one of the season to set your rotation for this series. Pretty much got what they deserved.

it’s genuinely difficult for a team to be this bad in a single NHL game

Adam Gretz@adamgretz.bsky.social

The Fancy Stat/Underlying numbers from that game are as lopsided as the score. The Koivunen-Lapierre-Hallander line had a 3-0 goal advantage and a 96.8 expected goal share.
