I am heartbroken by the death of Julián Curo-Churata, a Laurel resident, husband, and father who died in ICE custody far from his family. My prayers are with his loved ones. His family deserves answers, and the American people deserve accountability and transparency.

Walter Olson@walterolson.bsky.social

Death of a handyman: ICE cited “convictions for driving with expired vehicle registration” and an unspecified judgment against him in favor of the Maryland comptroller. The 47-year-old Curo-Churata "had volunteered to leave the country on his own, but a judge denied the request."

Our democracy depends on checks and balances, accountability, and leaders who respect the rule of law.   With so much at stake, this year's midterm elections are a critical moment for our country. The future of our democracy is on the line, and every voice deserves to be heard.

Happy National Space Week!   We toured facilities across FL’s Space Coast as part of the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope launch and saw firsthand the work driving America’s future in space.   Continued investment in space exploration means new discoveries and new opportunities right here in Maryland.

Three years after the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel, we remember the lives lost and all those whose lives have been shattered by the war that followed. We must continue working to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and achieve a lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

AI is changing everyday life for everyday people, yet they still don’t have a seat at the table.   We need real oversight and accountability that puts people first. Innovation cannot come at the expense of the people it’s supposed to serve.

Seniors are paying nearly $500 more in Medicare premiums. Now Trump wants to hand them $90 and call it a favor.   Meanwhile, I met with healthcare and Medicaid leaders to hear what his cuts mean for patients and providers.   Our seniors deserve lower costs, not a desperate midterm stunt.

No American city or life is expendable.    Absolutely disgraceful.

Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

Funny how quickly “rigged” mail-in voting became “SO IMPORTANT.”   Guess the polls will do that to you.

TrumpReposter@trumpreposter.bsky.social

(1/2) Republicans must WIN the 2026 Midterm Elections, and we must use every appropriate tool — Whether you vote early, absentee, by mail, or in-person, we must “swamp” the Radical Left Dumocrats with massive turnout! SO IMPORTANT — PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE. MAKE AMERICA

AI isn’t taking a 7 week recess. Congress shouldn’t either. We have bipartisan legislation on the table in the House to address the risks of AI. But we can’t debate it, improve it or pass it when Speaker Johnson sends the House home. We should be in Washington doing our jobs, not running from it.

I’ve been on the move recently, meeting with leaders across housing, health care and our military. No matter the topic, these conversations help me stay connected to the issues affecting Marylanders and the people working on them every day.

Two years ago, we helped secure federal funding for Insulators Local 24 to expand workforce training. Yesterday, we saw that investment in action.   During Maryland Economic Development Week, I joined the City of Laurel to celebrate Local 24 and the good-paying careers they’re building.

Inspectors General are supposed to be independent watchdogs, not political appointees who can be pushed out for doing their jobs.   That’s why I introduced the Inspectors General Modernization Act to establish 10-year terms and require cause for removal.

Hosting the Quantum World Congress at UMD showed just how much potential we have to lead the future of quantum.   But innovation can’t come at the expense of Maryland families.   We can lead in innovation without leaving Marylanders with the bill.

Sickle Cell Awareness Month is a reminder that awareness must lead to action.   Yesterday at Children’s National, I joined Warriors and advocates to discuss new treatments and how our Congressional Sickle Cell Disease Caucus can keep driving progress.

I was glad to join UMD, Gov. Moore, Lt Gov. Miller, and other leaders for the Quantum World Congress conference right here in the Capital of Quantum- College Park, MD.   The conversations that we had last week made one thing clear: quantum technology is moving quickly, and Maryland is in 1st place.

Our young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. They have a voice that matters right now.   From DeMatha High School to Howard University, I enjoyed talking with the next generation of leaders and hearing directly from them.   Always glad to be on the move with our youth!

If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be working so hard to block it.   This administration has attacked voting rights on all fronts b/c they know the tides are changing. This election is the most consequential one in recent times.   Know your rights. Make your voice heard. Show out and vote.

Maryland is building the Capital of Quantum right here in Prince George’s County.   I joined Gov. Moore and partners to celebrate the opening of the new Discovery Center in College Park, home to Microsoft’s new quantum research center and space for the next generation of quantum startups.

Trump can't stop with the distractions. He's now banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House.   Meanwhile, Americans haven't forgotten about the economy.   Congress must stay focused on working families while holding this Administration accountable.

Last week, I hosted Ad Astra: African Americans in Space Exploration at CBCF’s Annual Legislative Conference with Artemis II Captain Victor Glover, Dr. Jeanette Epps and DuVal graduate Kaitlin Rowe.   A powerful conversation on space, education, faith and Black history.

Restricting press access is already backfiring on the President. He’s speaking but we can’t hear it because there isn’t a WH TV pool to capture his audio 🤦🏽‍♂️. Although, given what usually comes out of his mouth, maybe they’re doing us a favor.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Trump held a White House event Monday without the usual television pool, leaving his remarks inaudible after major networks suspended pooled coverage in response to his ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico.

AI is advancing fast, and Congress cannot afford to move slowly. We need guardrails that hold AI companies accountable when they put Americans at risk. At the same time, government needs to work with scientists and industry leaders on technological safeguards that can keep pace with the technology.

The Supreme Court rejected the Trump Admin’s attempt to enforce new mail-in voting restrictions ahead of the midterms. I joined the legal battle urging the Court to block these restrictions because the Constitution sets limits on presidential power over our elections. Today, those limits held.

NEWS: The Supreme Court has rejected the Trump regime’s emergency request to enforce new restrictions on mail ballots ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. See the full decision and learn more here.

After nearly nine months in ICE detention, Tiago Sousa is finally home. ICE kept him wrongfully detained, while he was denied necessary medical care. It took a federal judge ordering his release for ICE to let him go. Welcome home, Tiago.

The Constitution gives states and Congress authority over federal elections, not the President.   The President himself voted by mail just last month. He cannot unilaterally change the rules governing how millions of other Americans cast their ballots.

Data centers may be part of our future, but Maryland families should not be stuck footing the bill for Big Tech’s growth.   If these projects strain local resources or disrupt our communities, residents deserve a real say in what gets built and where.

Being there in person to watch the Nancy Grace Roman Telescope lift off was something I’ll never forget. I’m incredibly proud of the Goddard workforce and everyone who made this mission possible, and I’m excited to see what Roman helps us discover next.

Members of Congress know where the line is. We have a responsibility not to cross it.   Young staffers come to Capitol Hill hoping to make a difference and build their careers. They should never have to navigate misconduct from someone who holds power over them.

The March on Washington showed the power of people standing together and demanding better from their country.   63 years later, that work continues. For our rights, our families, and our future, we’ve got to bring ’em out, raise our voices, and keep moving forward. @cbc.house.gov

Keeping the government open matters, especially for the thousands of federal workers and families who call Maryland home.   But that doesn’t mean giving Republicans a pass. We need to keep the government running while fighting to lower costs and hold the Trump Administration accountable. @npr.org

What an incredible morning. Today, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, proudly built and tested at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, began its journey into deep space. I can’t wait to see what new questions Roman helps us answer about our universe.

Trump is trying to restrict mail-in voting and force states to turn over voter rolls, raising serious questions about his intentions. Meanwhile, Trump voted by mail AGAIN this year. We should be making it easier for eligible Americans to vote, not harder.

I spent years as a prosecutor holding violent offenders accountable. But sweeping through our neighborhoods, spreading fear, and treating entire communities like suspects is not public safety.

We can keep our communities safe without tearing our neighbors away from their families. We can hold violent offenders accountable without sacrificing constitutional rights and basic human dignity. Maryland can and must do both.

Donald Trump has plenty of time to draw up new maps, but apparently no time to lower costs for working families.   His tariffs were ruled illegal. Now he’s busy renaming the Gulf of Mexico, floating new names for the Strait of Hormuz, and threatening to turn Lake Ontario into “Lake America.”

As the first day of school wraps up for PGCPS and MCPS, let’s remember it takes a strong community to help our students succeed.   It was great to see families, local vendors, and neighbors come together to start the school year strong!

Students across Maryland head back to school tomorrow, and back-to-school costs are climbing. Families are feeling it everywhere from school supplies to the lunch table. Parents should not have to keep paying more just to give their kids the basics they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

The national debt just hit $40 trillion.   The Trump Administration promised fiscal responsibility. Instead, they gave tax breaks to billionaires and poured billions into an illegal war in Iran.   Congress answers to the American people. It’s time House Republicans acted like it.

Breaking News: The U.S. national debt hit $40 trillion after decades of borrowing. President Trump has promised to restore fiscal order, yet many of his policies have only exacerbated the debt burden. nyti.ms/4gpGitS

The Trump administration is deporting Haitians to a country so dangerous U.S. commercial flights are banned from its capital. Some deportees were not even born there.   Sending people into danger to satisfy a punitive and inhumane immigration agenda is cruelty, not policy.

NBC News@nbcnews.com

The U.S. deports more than 160 people to Haiti for the first time since the Trump administration won a legal battle to end Temporary Protected Status for 350,000 Haitians.

Nine months at sea. Families raising concerns about food, sanitation, and deteriorating mental health.   President Trump’s response? “Not nearly long enough.”   Our servicemembers have sacrificed enough. End this illegal war in Iran and bring them home.

NPR@npr.org

President Trump said the USS Abraham Lincoln deployment is "not nearly long enough." A family member of a sailor on board that ship said those comments are shameful. n.pr/4zinYeC
