I'm going to be taking a big step back from social media for a while. I've truly enjoyed 99% of the interactions I've had on here with you all but I want to focus on my creative outlets and actually playing games. Unfortunately being on socials feels more and more like a distraction every day.

Popping back in to say that I hope that you're all doing exceptionally well. Also, (relevant to me trying to get Gold rank in Marvel Rivals for that Deadpool skin) I'd rather lose with a team I like than win with a team I hate. That applies to all aspects of my life but especially gaming.

I would like to add that while competitive modes in games are never inherently a bad thing, the negative mindsets and toxicity they encourage in player bases are.

I'll be back. I just don't know when and in what capacity. I wish you all nothing but happiness and fulfillment as the new year begins. Catch you on the flip-flop.

Whatever you celebrate, whatever you believe, I hope that you spend this holiday season doing something that makes you happy surrounded by people that love you. ❤️

Despite its faults, Pokemon Legends Z-A has become my second favorite Pokemon game (just under Black and Black 2 which are tie). 65+ hours in and I've yet to feel a dip in my enjoyment of it. It also gave my favorite Pokemon a Mega so bonus points.

When I say I like something it doesn't mean I don't have issues with it or that I'm glazing, it just means I'm just not a perpetually online miserable motherfucker. Your inability to enjoy things is your problem, not mine. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Look man, I absolutely hate generative AI as much as the next guy but we can't keep grabbing torches and pitchforks every time someone says AI. "AI" is being used as a catch-all for both the useful and the scummy stuff.

Conversations surrounding media are no longer about the media itself but about demonstrating how your opinion about said media is superior to all other opinions. Forget about nuance, discussion, and understanding. Everything is black or white, you're right and they are wrong.

Thankfully I don't have access to the Battle Pass cosmetics from Season 3 (the best armor for a mechanical artificer lover such as myself) and have lost interest ... for now. Sometimes my obsession with character appearance is a blessing in disguise. Only sometimes.

Got a pretty decent promotion at work but it's a bit overwhelming how quickly things fell into my lap. That said, I'm excited for the bulkier paycheck since it's just in time for the Steam Winter Sale.

I'm both excited for and horrified to dive into the World of Warcraft player housing. The pure amount of options and flexibility is going to consume me.

Every year I feel like it gets harder and harder to pretend that the Game Awards is an actual celebration of games and their creators. Nothing wrong with enjoying it as a big and bombastic showcase but this show continues to find new ways to disrespect the people actually working in the industry.

A serial game dev and journalist harasser (well documented by his own website) attending and claiming he was invited was the final straw among many. It's not a celebration of developers or games. No matter how hard they try to mask it, it's a celebration of trailers and hype.

That's not even talking about "wrap it up" or gross treatment of Future Class or harmful false claims about team sizes or absurd ad placement prices or lack of decent security or always speed running giving out awards like they're the least important part of an award show ...

Smash JT is a scumbag who has done an obscene amount of damage to individual developers, studios, and gaming communities as a whole with his dipshit racist/misogynist grift. Him sitting there and smiling like a turd at the Game Awards is like a fucking ICE Special Agent celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

I will not speculate on The Game Award winners because I haven't played enough of those games. All I know is I want to play all of those games and can't seem to find the time. 😢

Typing out a generative AI script doesn't make you a creative. You're a glorified thief using 0s and 1s like an automated tracing marker. AI 100% made this and it's fucking embarrassing.

McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did' Comments have been turned off on YouTube

So apparently in Metroid Prime 4 the motorcycle desert section is by design supposed to feel isolating and eerie hence the lack of music. You can unlock a "radio" or "jukebox" for those sections that plays other tracks from the game by beating the game/using the amiibo. It's a bonus.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo makes some trash big corpo decisions but the way this is being twisted and outrage farmed without real context is why I'm really considering leaving social media entirely. It's just the same disingenuous shit over and over again for views. I'm tired of seeing it.

Capitalism worked when companies used to invest and compete to make better products that people in turn would really want to buy. Value for the consumer. Now it's all about making the cheapest product possible with the cheapest pipeline that will still sell. Value for the company/share holders.

This is true for almost all industries right now in the US. Especially video games. It's unfortunate that despite being products that rely on creativity and artistry to have value, these companies only see money bags and would rather go down with the ship than steer away from the iceberg.

The only downside to choosing to send out a bunch of sincere messages to people that you're grateful for early on Thanksgiving Day is having to reply later on once they've been read. I've already slipped into antisocial mode, my lovelies. We'll catch up after Black Friday.

We're watching Stranger Things S5 and taking a shot every time a random character dies, two shots every time a secondary character dies, and three shots every time a main character dies. Working my way through episode 3 and I don't think my liver survives this season guys ...

I'm pretty alcohol impaired at this point but even I know the difference between the NES and arcade version of Ghosts 'n Goblins. Just saying ...

Anyone else getting a massive influx of scam calls recently? I got 4 obvious scam voicemails just this morning. -sigh- The people who do this are garbage along with scalpers and rage bait content creators. All low effort no morality bullshittery.

Wicked For Good definitely feels padded but that was always going to happen having Act 2 be its own movie. It's darker, sadder, and a bit more disjointed but it sticks the landing. Walked out appreciating my friendships and what they mean to me. I really like this adaptation.

While my office rework won't be done till Wednesday ... my new PC is up and running. I've officially left primary console gaming behind to join the PC peasant legion.

Making the jump from a controller player to using a mouse and keyboard for everything has been rough retrain for my hands. Last night I had to relearn how to play DBD with varying degrees of success 🤣

Not to throw shade at Shroud but he also did say that "multiplayer games need a win" about an industry dominated by live service and multiplayer games ... Also, it's not that the world isn't ready for AI it's that no one who respects games as an art form respects generative AI.

Shroud has accused The Game Awards of being “rigged” following its Game of The Year Arc Raiders snub, saying "the world is just not ready for AI in video games." https://bit.ly/488djGQ

There is no middle ground in discourse between AI tools (the middleware mentioned) and generative AI because they're two different things! AI tools are there to help streamline and speed up the dev process, generative AI is there to replace devs. There is no middle ground here imo.

"Surely there's a middle ground here?" The CEO of Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead says people "jump to extreme takes" when debating generative AI, and that there needs to be more nuance in the discussion. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/surely-...
