Only a compromised US leader sides with Putin over Ukraine, compromised by greed, an authoritarian worldview, ego, and likely by coercion. DJT is, by definition, a national security nightmare as well as a traitor to democracy. Putin started the war and can end it today. Might does not make right. 🇺🇦

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

It's really hard to believe one person can contain this much ignorance, arrogance, grievance, petulance, and malevolence.

What a maroon. A true national embarrassment, day in and day out. But this is more than just more Trumpian idiocy. It damages a vital and valued relationship. It makes the US a laughingstock internationally. What a flaccid act by an impotent buffoon. wapo.st/4gUNpvA

Happy birthday to Vincent van Gogh, born March 30, 1853. He painted the moth from a drawing he made of what he believed was a death's-head moth, depicting a small skull on the insect's thorax. But the moth's four large eyespots are distinctive of the giant peacock moth, Europe's largest moth.

I've been lax in posting art, so I'll share something by a highly imaginative artist I enjoy: Charles Burchfield. I love this portrayal of the seasons as a literal passage through time. I just wish I could see a hint of sunlit spring in the snow swirling outside my window. #art #spring

I recently read a little about trans Danish artist Lili Elbe, the subject of the 2015 film The Danish Girl, and I discovered this lovely painting she created a century ago on the island of Capri. #Art #EndHate

In 1830 Charles X of France suspended freedom of the press and the constitution, restricted voting, and purged his opposition, triggering the July Revolution. Forced to abdicate, he left France in exile.

For some inexplicable reason, I have been thinking lately of Ambrogio Lorenzetti's allegorical murals of government, specifically his representation of bad leadership. #Art #Government #Kakistocracy #DumbestTimeline

It's an inspired masterpiece, but I feel like Lorenzetti and his oligarchs did miss a few characteristics of bad governance, particularly Ignorance. Maybe we're even less discerning now, living in the (dis)information age?

His cross-eyed Tyrant, portrayed with demonic horns and tusks, is surrounded by the figures of Cruelty, Treason, Fraud, Frenzy, Division, War, Avarice, Pride, and Vainglory. The Tyrant rests its feet on a goat, a medieval symbol of Lust.

A 14th-century book for city magistrates called these flaws the "leading enemies of human life." Below the Tyrant, Justice is portrayed by a bound, despondent woman in white, her broken scales lying beside her.
