"A trans girl is not "socialized male" - she's brutalized into hiding herself." This hit me so hard. Too many of us live this experience. Thank you for speaking up Casey. Please read the full thread on Casey's page.

I'm reluctant to speak up on trans topics these days because it's often not worth the pain caused, so I'm probably going to regret this, but disappointingly a lot of people need to hear this. Accusing trans women of "male socialization" is an astonishingly cruel, callous, and spiteful thing to say.

I’m so glad to live in “the best country on earth” where we zip tie naked kids together in the middle of the night and frog march them while destroying lives and property

Note for people who just want a social media app that works: when they say a better social media they don’t mean safe. They mean a bunch of behind the scenes tech stuff that doesn’t mean anything to you. That’s why when you address safety concerns it will just be “WAFFLES” to them. 🧵

5. Check out Northsky, its goal is a safer space for LGBTQ+ people. It currently is being developed and isn’t something that’s up and running yet however it might be a good option down the road, but it remains to be seen how it will work in practice. And if the community idea will be sustainable

6. Other than waiting for projects like that to mature (and supporting them financially if you can) in not sure that there’s really anything that can be done unless your in a position to learn how to build what you want and build it. End of thread that will likely not be seen at all.

3. Bluesky has largely failed in explaining its objectives and function to general social media users and has made it such that it’s almost like two different conversations are happening because technical and general user expect two different things.

4. So what can non or less technical users do when you want safety? Unfortunately options are limited and not much help is likely to come from official Bluesky. The way it’s built and being developed allows alternatives and the best we can do right now is wait and see.

2. Creating a safe social media was never the goal. The reason it was safer than the alternatives was due to who was or was not using it. As more people use the platform (particularly problematic people) safety will decrease.

Lots of trans people made it to adulthood bla bla bla This is survivorship bias and fails to take into account the massive losses and that the trans community has and continues to take

CLARIFICATION : The Trevor Project's hotline will still be live. But basically this means LGBTQ people can no longer be connected to it through the US national 988 suicide prevention hotline. They will need to be contacted DIRECTLY So spread this around They can be texted. They can be called.

We stand on the shoulders of giants. If you love 3D printing but don't know who this man is, take a moment to read up on his work. We owe so much to the selfless labor of making that first RepRap.

Another day, another BS political stunt, another piece of proof that we shouldn't trust the big social media platforms to do anything in society's best interest. #decentralize #fediverse

Finally feel like I'm making a little bit of progress on the tool changer project. Still a long ways to go rebuilding the gantry and changing all the accounts to purple.

You are up to date.
