Can we use vomit as a time machine? Snow petrel stomach oil piles up at nests for millennia, recording Antarctica's past, but only if we know what birds eat today. Our new paper led by @zhongxuanli.bsky.social provides a key step to reading those archives doi.org/10.3354/meps... #OceanSky 🦑🦉🌊🧪

🚨 New paper in @consletters.bsky.social, one of the main outputs of my #PhD ! 🥳 You can read it here 👉 doi.org/10.1111/con4... Summary below
The High Seas cover two thirds of the ocean, yet only ~1% is protected. The #BBNJ treaty lets countries change that, but first we need to know where to act. Our new paper led by @mariemrouyer.bsky.social and published in @consletters.bsky.social today uses seabird tracking to help 🧵 #OceanSky 🦑🦉🌊🧪
As countries decide where the first High Seas protected areas should go, these maps can help put them in the right places. Let's target protection where the evidence points, not where it's politically convenient. Delighted to have contributed to this study. #OA paper here: doi.org/10.1111/con4...

🧊 Arctic sea ice slowdown? Ice hasn’t shrunk much since 2005 — but it’s still half the 1980s size. This pause is natural variation, not recovery. The Arctic is warming 4x faster than the global avg. 📉 Loss could soon accelerate fast. 🔗 Read Dr. @jamesgrecian.com's take: tinyurl.com/bdd8wmh6
