Let's see what new madness Apple has for me today that I'll never buy because I can't afford it. $4,500 CAD MacBook Pro to go with a $3,000 CAD iPhone? I'll add it to the pile with the new $429 Apple TV 4K. Oh and a $200 mini speaker...I'll need two for stereo, of course.

Not public...just for me. The two wards are where we live and where my parents live. Need to keep mom updated!

New iPad mini is $949 CAD for 128GB and $1099 for 256GB which is the bare minimum anyone should get. The plot has been lost.

Related, I loathe the usage of the "gate" suffix to mean scandal. Watergate wasn't a water scandal, it was called that because of the Watergate Hotel where the scandal took place. But yet, here we are...the suffix "gate" has become synonymous with "scandal".

iPhone "Crackgate" begins. I'm sure JT at Apple will assure us soon that this is a very isolated problem with the Duo. Millions sold and only a handful of issues (on the first day). Folding phones are clearly still hard.

Great work by the @toronto.ca, the TTC and the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon. As usual, it's basically impossible to get to the start of the race at 8:00 A.M. God forbid they start the subway early...it's not like we're a world class city or anything. Godspeed runners. I hope you have a plan.

Sauna and cold plunge time again today. I'm pretty confident I can squeeze in a recovery run here in Vancouver tomorrow morning before heading to the airport to fly home.

Back in my favourite city on earth aka Vancouver. Hard to believe it's been since May, 2024 that I've been here...far too long between visits.

The journey from Victoria via public transit was a long one - left the hotel at 9:45am and arrived at the hotel here in Coal Harbour around 3:20pm. But I saw orcas from the ferry!

Early pasta dinner with the kid in Victoria. We walked straight in but the line was fifty people when we left! All the runners are looking for carbs.

Shakedown run time. It's windy and a bit on the cool side here which is hopefully not a preview of race day morning weather. I could do without gusty winds, thanks. Planning to finish this run at Crow's Coffee for a latte and treat as the carb load begins. www.instagram.com/crowscoffees...

The view from the hotel is out over the Gorge towards downtown. I walked over the Selkirk Trestle and back to get some groceries. Victoria is always beautiful. Seaplanes flying over and the Olympic Mountains in the distance too.

Made it to Victoria and all checked in to my nice hotel. It's got a kitchenette which is super handy when carb loading before a race. Beautiful weather here and Sunday looks ideal for 42.2km of running.

Getting my app ready for the iPhone Duo was dead simple because I used SwiftUI, Liquid Glass and built it with an adaptive layout from the start. Literally no changes required to work on the Duo. Build submitted and awaiting App Review and I added a new feature while I was at it.

RunnerCast 2.4 will be ready for the iPhone Duo. It also has a new feature for everyone who can't afford a $3,000 phone: Travel! Add your vacation dates and city and the five-day will swap out the forecast for where you are and will instead show the weather where you'll be.

Race week has arrived after 24 weeks of training. Two more short runs, a flight to Victoria, B.C., and carb loading await.

Habs hockey kicks off tonight with the first of 84 regular season games and hopefully followed by a bunch of playoff games too.

Stressful week was stressful...but a lot of things came into better view. A big product launch at work is coming together on time, my marathon training is effectively done (save for a couple of weeks of taper) and our car is ready for pickup early this week.

Ran my final "long" run of the Royal Victoria Marathon training block with 21.1km mostly at race pace on a beautiful day in Toronto. Feeling healthy, strong and ready to run 42.2km in two weeks.

Over-produced, low effort slop. There's my review of the four new songs from Taylor Swift. "Cleveland!" is godawful.

The Blue Jays bid for the post-season very likely ends today. One more loss in any of the five remaining games this year and they are done. Or a single White Sox win. American League Champs and one out from World Series Champs to sub-500 and missing the playoffs. Quite the tumble.

The final long run of my Victoria Marathon training block went really well. I negative split a 31km run by about five minutes and finished it really strongly. Next week is a mere 21.1km and then it's really time to rest up and prepare for marathon number 15.

"Does Globe life Field in Texas have natural grass or artificial turf?" Siri said it "has artificial turf" and cited Wikipedia. Claude said it "has real grass" and cited nothing. Claude completely made that up.

...Globe Life Field opened in 2020 specifically with artificial turf (Shaw Sports Turf's B1K system), and that's been true the whole time, so there's no "used to be grass" story to point to either. I just stated something confidently that was wrong." Sonnet 5 Medium, by the way.

Claude's full answer: "Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, actually has real grass — it's a retractable-roof stadium, but they use natural turf grown to handle the indoor and outdoor conditions."

When I asked why it gave an incorrect answer: "I don't have a good excuse — that was a plain factual error, not a case where the info was genuinely ambiguous...

Today I got a bug report from support, triaged it, had Claude find the issue in our code and fix it (with tests), and then I put in a pull request which got reviewed by a human, and pushed to production. In under two hours.

Upgraded my little 8-port switch at home to a 2.5Gbps model and huzzah. 1.3Gbps on Wi-fi depending on where I am in the house. I need a 2.5Gbps ethernet dongle for the laptop(s). This is all on a 3Gbps fibre connection.

Managed 31.5km today of the planned 34km. Could have gutted it out but there wasn’t any benefit to that. The humidity was ridiculous and really sapped the energy. Sometimes the day conspires against you and it’s best not to argue. #running

Running from Yonge and Wellington all the way to Kennedy Station (via Queen, Kingston Road, Danforth, Kennedy) and then the entire Eglinton Crosstown over to Mount Dennis. We'll hop on the LRT there to head back to the start. 34km total to run. Wish us luck!

Bit of a dress rehearsal this weekend for the Royal Victoria Marathon in four weeks. Making sure I load up on carbs tomorrow, and then 34km on Sunday will be a good test of pace and fuelling.
