Hi all 👋🏻 Lots of new followers here so let me introduce myself -- I'm a former journalist, NYer in LA, and one-time pun champion. (seriously.) Currently working on @forth.news, trying to make a better place for news online. Please say hi! Introduce yourselves!

Are you a PIO or work in government/official communications? As Facebook starts charging to post links, you may want to rethink how you distribute alerts to your constituents. We'd love to help.

Putting the "pool" back in "White House Press Pool"

President Trump has pushed to move briefings out of the White House press room. Aides say he wants an indoor swimming pool instead. nyti.ms/4eoW3AV

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

But, like, New America wouldn't make any sense because this is still the original America and... You know what, forget it

Do you need to react to the news? Does your job or investing strategy change when someone issues a statement? Let me let you in on a secret. Look through news articles covering the top stories; the outlet does not matter. Not just the headlines, but deep in the article, and look for sourcing.

A big share of these articles will be based around an update that was pushed to reporters in some form of press release, or posted to certain places online for journalists to constantly check. The problem is that there are too many of these to keep tabs on.

While not a replacement to a dogged, professional newsroom- we’ve been building @forth.news, pulling releases, alerts, statements, and other primary sources. We’re still increasing our local coverage, but would love to work with anyone from a news desert to surface some info from those areas.

For what its worth, we're proud @forth.news that we pull in official/newsworthy sources from X, so you can keep up without visiting the site.

I left x despite having a large following bc I don’t want to make free content for the world’s wealthiest racist. It’s not worth it to me.

Isaias is coming. If you need to keep track of whats happening on the ground, where authorities are mobilizing, or the latest alerts, you need Forth Pro. pro.forth.news

Kudos to anyone who takes charge like this—but I really hate this framing. Journalists are storytellers, responsible for making an audience care about what they’re reporting. Newspapers are a product that have to appeal to their market. Saying it’s “important” isn’t a marketing strategy.
