It's been over 5 years since I saw someone on YouTube building a mobile game which led to me writing my first line of code as a kid during the first lockdown. Since then, I've landed my first developer job while I was still in school and I will start my bachelor studies now. dev.to/jarne/my-5-y...

Thanks to the awesome community behind react-native-maps I might be able to publish moto-meet in the next few weeks! With the package now working with the new architecture and expo, I am in the final phase of development. There are still some bugs, but I am sure they will be fixed very soon!

Today, the home screen of Moto Meet got a makeover. You can now see interesting rideouts directly after starting the app. This includes rideouts you have signed up for, rideouts in the next week and the next rideouts in your area! Let me know what you think #motosky

I have updated the navigation structure of Moto Meet. The rideout search is now under the same tab as the rideout map. I think this is quite an elegant solution for the UX while keeping the UI clean and simple. Let me know what you think about it #motosky

I think I have come to a more or less final approach on the latest page of my current project Moto Meet! What do you think of the design?

Today I created a temporary UI to test the database function filtering rideouts I developed a few days ago. Although this is not the final design, here's a first look:

Today I have created a PostgreSQL function to project all the rideouts in a circular area around a specified location during a given time period. I am looking forward to use this functionality in my frontend soon!

Getting back to the development of Moto Meet! The latest feature I added is profile pictures. Users can now upload any image from their photo library. They can crop the image to match the aspect ratio. Then the image get's resized, converted and uploaded to the server.

Currently looking into Minecraft plugin development again. It's been a long time since I developed my last plugin and figured it would be best to do a course first. I found an awesome course on Udemy and I'm looking forward to create my own public server after finishing the course! Stay tuned!

The things that psychologically harm me the most are definitely not enough sleep and too much social media. Realization is the first step to improvement. But from my experience, spending less time on social media can be really tough.

Me and a few friends decided to try out one unusual, extraordinary restaurant every month. New cuisines, interesting dishes, concepts and so on. Really looking forward to these events. In addition to eating nice food, this idea led to the idea of my new project: Table Team.

Table Team is a free mobile app that manages exactly this. You can create a group and invite your friends. Everybody can recommend places they'd like to try and upvote their friend's ideas. You can then schedule an event from one of these recommendations and everything get's much more organized!

Me and a few friends decided to try out one unusual, extraordinary restaurant every month. New cuisines, interesting dishes, concepts and so on. Really looking forward to these events. In addition to eating nice food, this idea led to the idea of my new project: Table Team.

This was our idea: We all look for some places that we'd like to try out. Then, everyone can select their favorites and we choose a random restaurant to eat at every month. In the beginning, we posted our ideas, favorites and other general information in one single group chat.

And I have to admit: It's quite messy. It's hard to see the suggestions, distinguish them from favorites and find out what has been planned for the future. That's why I started building Table Team.

There has been some progress. My new project Table Team is coming along great. So far I've only been working on basic functionality, but here's what I got so far: - Login/Signup - Language selection - Theme toggle - Profile editing - Profile deletion Now I'll start developing the specific features!

The first bricks for my latest small side project have been laid! Let me introduce you to "Table Team"! This should become an app where you and your friends can plan and schedule events to try out special, extraordinary restaurants!

While Table Team takes up most of my time right now, I am planning on releasing my bigger project around motorcycles right on track for the start of 2025's saison. Stay tuned for updates!

I have started a side quest (A new small mobile app)! It's the first time I really planned most of the structure before starting development. Until now, I have made mockups/sketches, a database structure, database security rules and a list of the database functions needed. ...

Tomorrow I'm going to start the programming part. I have already set up the database in supabase. For the frontend I am going to use the react native framework Expo. Gonna share more info on what the app is about soon. Ideally, the whole project shouldn't take more than two weeks or so.

I just had a SCARY conversation with ChatGPT. At some point, ChatGPT said that the given results may not be close to my location, with the exact (pretty small) city I live in. After that, I asked, how ChatGPT knew my location. ...

Its response was "I don't know your location, but you mentioned [city name]". I definitely didn't say anything about my location or that city and I have disabled any personalization settings. I asked ChatGPT when I mentioned that name. Then ChatGPT realised I never mentioned that city. ...

The hardest part about developing an app is bringing it to life. Once it has enough active users, it can live by itself. The way there is the toughest part.

A LOT has happened since my last update here: Here are the top additions to my current project: - Added localization for German and English - Added support for both iOS and Android - Some small fixes all over the app Stay tuned for more updates!

I have just set up my new MacBook for development. Definitely going to take a look into Cursor, a promising looking, AI code editor based on Visual Studio Code. Merry Christmas everyone!

Todays addition to my current react native project: - Finished the rideout information page - Added signup functionality to rideouts - Users can sign up with a bike from their collection

I like free, ad-free apps. That's why I like to keep my apps free and try not to include annoying advertisements in them. This makes it a challange to generate revenue, but for now that's my way to go!

Why is there 300 character limit on new bluesky posts, but I can add an alt text of up to 2000 characters for every image I post?

Here's another sneak peak into my current react native project. This time you might guess what it's about. What is one feature the app needs to offer?

The profile page of my current react native project is coming together! Any guesses what it's about? It definitely includes somthing about motorcycles!

Just one downside about Expo: Expo sometimes wants you to use older versions of npm packages, which leads to you having to face known bugs without being able to do much about it. Even though they might be compatible with your react native version, Expo just doesn't seem to like them.

I am genuinely impressed of the bottom sheet I have just created for react native with ChatGPT. The first version I got was scarily good. All it took to be the way I wanted it to be was some tweaking and refactoring from my side. And I'm really happy with the result, let me know what you think!

I am not saying that AI can do all the development by itself at this point in time, but the effort I saved as a developer building this has been massive.

This is the first time I had such a great result developing something with ChatGPT. Most of my previous tries I received failing, incomplete or unlogical code which never gave me the feeling of actually having saved time. It just took the fun of developing it yourself by replacing it with debugging.

I feel like supabase and Next.js can be one of the best tech stacks for web development. While supabase sometimes requires an additional backend, Next.js offers exactly this out of the box with server actions, while the frontent is extremely fast and easy to integrate!

For creating the MVP of my latest app, I try sticking to Expo and supabase for my tech stack. I hope I can keep the code clean and efficient without having to set up an own nodejs backend.

I have started to look into Expo after years of bare react native development. After some starting issues (that hopefully don't return), I have to admit: I kinda like it. The whole development workflow seems so smooth and building with EAS is a really welcoming change!

With a lot of new people joining Bluesky, quite some people seem to find and enjoy using the Motorcycles feed I created a while ago. Thanks for all the feedback and impressions! Let me know if you encounter any issues or have ideas for improvement! bsky.app/profile/did:...

The last few days were tough. Had to pretty much drop an app I am developing and I am lacking ideas of what to build next. I've got the time and the motivation, but I'm missing the creativity.

I don't know if the nanotexture screen on the new Apple MacBook Pro M4 is what I want. Does anyone have experience with this glass?

I am currently working on an achievement system for my react native app. Here's a sneak peak of it's current state, but I'm not quite happy with the UI and I might add some more achievements. Let me know what you think! #development #programming

Todays development progress of my react native focus app: I added a streak you can build up by entering the focus mode for more than five minutes a day. In addition to this, I have started generating/creating images for achievements you can get when using the app. #development #programming

I am starting to think about sharing more of my react native app development progress of my focusing app. What's a feature you'd definitely need in such an app?

Jarne@jarne-rolf.de

I have started developing a new app with react native! It is (yet another) focus app that tracks your focused time in a somewhat game-like environment. I really enjoy building this app, even though there are quite some competitors out there. But there is one feature, that makes my app stand out!🀫
