American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United should be ashamed.

Five major airlines are suing to overturn a rule from then-Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg that actually holds airlines accountable for damaging disabled people's wheelchairs. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The techs at Valvoline love showing me what my oil looks like on the dipstick as if I have any clue how to interpret this. But this odd Rorschach ritual is is just a minor quirk in an overall excellent customer experience. Seriously I look forward to going to the Centreville VIOC.

As far as “little things that individually aren’t so bad but in aggregate suck the life out of me” go, emails where I click unsubscribe and then the site asks me to enter my email address is up there. You know who I am and why I’m here. Just stop sending me shit.

Some HDDs to complete the parts accumulation! One 18 TB drive will be the parity disk, then the other 18 TB, 14 TB, and two 10 TB drives from my current system will be the storage array. So a total of 52 TB usable space with a 2 TB SSD cache.

The build came together nicely. The Fractal Design Define 7 case is a joy to work in, despite the name being terrible. One of the HDDs was DOA unfortunately so I’ll have to return that. But that doesn’t keep me from proceeding with the Unraid setup.

I’m sure I’m not the first person to come up with this idea, but rather than companies offering childcare, schools should be coworking spaces. I’d love to have lunch with my kids then they go off to their meetings and I call in to mine. Then we all play kickball.

Part accumulation is almost complete. Got an open-box Corsair 850 watt power supply from Micro Center (I’m in love with their open box selection), a Fractal Designs Define 7 case from B&H, and 50 TB of disks from goHardDrives.

Back in the late ‘90s, the Taco Bell Gordita Supreme was my jam. So I was ecstatic when I saw they were bringing it back for this decades thing. There’s something off about it though. I remember the shell being way fluffier back then. Now it’s basically just a slightly thicker soft taco.

And this i5-12400 processor. At first I was going to go with the 14th generation one but I read some conflicting opinions on those so figured I’ll stick with the 12th gen and save a few bones in the process.

Oh well would you look at that, they have some pretty good prices on open box stuff and some lingering cyber week sales. Well I mean it’d be a shame to have driven all this way just for that Sonos charger.

This series of impulse justifications is pretty flimsy, but here it goes. I recently got a Sonos Roam 2 and wanted the charge base for it. Sonos sells it for $50, which seemed high. Micro Center had an open box one for $17, but that’s a 20 min drive away. If only I had another reason to go there…

I picked up a CAT S22 Flip dumb-ish phone for my father in law who can't do a true smart phone for reasons. Using a D-pad to navigate Android on a 2-inch screen is a special kind of hell. But on the flip (ha!) side, oh how I miss that satisfying "thunk" of closing it.

You may not have realized the closet right by the door of the plane is meant for mobility equipment because the crew often use it for storing their luggage. And that’s fine for them to do unless someone requests to use it for storing their wheelchair. Then the ACAA compels them to free up the space.

Guess what didn’t happen on my recent American Airlines flight. If you guessed “the flight attendant refused to free up the space because ‘well, the first officer’s luggage is already there’ earning the airline a DOT discrimination complaint,” you are correct!

You are up to date.
