My former Greek professor Steve White left me a box of some 19th century editions of Demosthenes. I have been scared to lift them as I am afraid they will crumple instantly 🤣🤣.

Got the funding secured for the SCS. Haven’t been in person since 2023 in NOLA so I am pretty hype to be able to be there in person in Boston! Hope to catch up with some folks in January!

This week I’ll start working on the fourth dissertation chapter. It’s crazy to think I’ve written as much of this thing as I have but I’m excited to dig into some more research and get into writing. Something about Sale law…. 🧐🧐🧐🤓🤓

Four job apps submitted so far in the same term where I am continuing to progress this dissertation and teaching an intermediate Latin course.

“We should never forget that there also are forces outside to be fought against in the battle to be human, with Black and brown lives on the line. Why seek respite or comfort in critical fabulation and the theories of Black feminist thought if we won’t engage and stand up for those lives?”.

Lord forbid you’re Black and you make a bad choice. All it takes is one for your life to be devalued. They are just waiting for any opportunity to say why our lives are worth less. Why our lives should be scrutinized more. This is existence for us.

Been so busy with the diss and now application materials that I nearly forgot I get to teach Caesar and Vergil in Latin for the first time this fall which is pretty neat!

My daughter starts kindergarten in two weeks. It feels like it was just yesterday that I was holding her in one hand while having seminar over zoom during Covid…

So went on vacation which has helped refresh my mind but I’ve now experienced jet lag for the first time having left the country. I got back on Monday and getting back into working mode has been a struggle. 🙃🙃

Haven’t seen the Odyssey yet. Honestly all the discourse around the movie makes me hate the idea of either watching the movie or engaging with the discourse 🤣.

authors need to stop thinking this is the hunger games: not only one author needs to be left standing at the end. knowledge begets knowledge. expand. include. and for the love of god have some integrity, give credit where it's due. the fact that walden chose the exact same title is just egregious.

An open letter, to readers, about Charity and Sylvia. I am very pained to feel the need to write this. #queerhistory #pride

Dramatic announcement incoming: After over 3 years yours truly has written for the SCS blog once again. Stay tuned for “Fatherlessness in Antiquity and Now” this week.
