#BeeslingersWIP Accountability Thread! Buzzing for a solid 50k in a month on a first draft of lesbian gunslingers and bees. See image for the MC's summary of the plot. See replies for daily updates. :) #writingcommunity #writesky #writingsky

#Octember Mick: Would definitely be a trickster god, perhaps of stories, song, wisdom, and fate. He's practically all of these things already, but spoilers. Honeysuckle: Def goddess of bees and flowers. And also patron of workers, goddess of revolutions and freedom. And [SPOILER].

Zed Prospero@zprospero.bsky.social

Please try to remember the 27th of #Octember! TODAY'S QUESTION: After meeting your character, what kind of god would a primitive alien think they could be? Dropped off in a far off place, they blundered about, and now there's little statues with their face... 1/2 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Eleanor: Would mostly be seen as Mick's consort (she takes up an advisory role to him post-transformation and rarely gets involved herself), but she might also be seen as a goddess of storms and destiny. Jo: Ironically, a goddess of fire/war. She's not a fire mage; she just makes things go boom.

#LGBTQWriteAThon Mick: Used to tell spooky stories (complete with violin backing music) when he was still in Southwind, to entertain kids when he wasn't working (and sometimes when he was but it was slow). He prob does the same for the dragons of Sanctuary eventually. (1/3)

#LGBTQWriteAThon October 27: Today's question is brought to you by @spookyxpickle.bsky.social. Be sure to check out their Book Bazaar project! What is your or your character's favorite spooky season pastime? @queerwriters.bsky.social @rebeccafrostwrites.com #queerwriters #lgbtqwriters

Eleanor: Listening to Mick's stories. Barring that, going to see appropriately thrilling plays. (It's 1909 Fantasy France.) Honeysuckle: Autumn foraging! Especially for the fruits, flowers, and nuts used in traditional zizzun autumn baked goods. Also baking said goods. Jo: Scaring Miri. (2/3)

Me: It usually is chilling with hot apple cider, a cider doughnut, some writing, and a marathon of Halloween specials in the background, but since getting Beenjamin, it has *also* been going out to leaf peep and check out Halloween decorations wherever possible. (3/3)

#WIPSnips Spooky -> haunting. Technically from the last draft of TNS: The titular nameless song, divine melody that birthed the universe, only comes to Mick when something important is about to happen. Yet here it is, rearing its head for a stranger in the forest. #amwriting #writingcommunity

The #WIPSnips word for October 27th is "spooky" #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Welp, chapter 5 complete! Ending could use some tweaking, but it's there. It's kinda funny that I wrote this chapter with the express purpose of cutting a chapter, but turns out I cut nothing. I just rearranged when things happen. :') Ah well.

Happy Halloween Week 🎃 #Novmemeber starts on Sunday (Nov 1)! Feel free to participate around holidays and life—take part whichever days suit you, and catch up/drop in whenever, if you like! Prompts daily at 12 AM EST #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #WritingPrompts #WritingQ

#AwesomeCharacters For me, it's about whether or not they're a well-written *character in general*. You can have a hard-ass, an affable asshole, an irredeemable monster, etc, but if there's no depth to them, no motivation, no personality beyond EVIL, it's just . . . eh. (1/5)

Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters Today feels like a technical question day! What separates a character you love to hate, from one you just hate? A villain you may not feel sympathy for, but enjoy nonetheless? Which do you like to write? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

And then you have Doc, who you wouldn't think has anything redeeming about him, and that's true. He's a racist and con artist. BUT he's believes what he's doing (carving out his own city in the desert) is necessary for survival in a time of political uncertainty. Mostly his survival, but yk. (5/5)

Actually, one more, but this is why I love the villains of FFXIV so much. A lot of them are for sure evil (whole lotta people who are chill with war crimes), but all of them have *reasons* for doing what they're doing, and it's hard not to see their point, even if, again, war crimes. /thread

It's kinda why, even if I start off by saying "this villain is an asshole to the MC," I *also* sit down and say, "But they're also like this because this is what they believe deep down, and this is what they want." And I make an effort to spell that out. (3/5)

Albert is a dick to Mick, but it's because he's got it in his head that Mick thinks he's better than he actually is/is taking advantage of Eleanor. And that's only "confirmed" (read: exacerbated) when the goddess of order chooses him to be her warrior. (4/5)

Conversely, if you tell me they hate the MC for a particular reason, they want something for a solid reason and not because just evil, they believe something to be good even if it isn't, or if you just plain construct a believable character, I'm on board, no matter what that villain is like. (2/5)

Walk Update: Feels like summer again. So many bumbles at the new flower spot. It seems really good for nectar; the bees don't seem to be collecting pollen (except on their faces). Super docile today too. Here's one lady who let me take a whole video. #beeposting #beesky

There are many problems that honey bees can't fix themselves, and they're not at all cognizant of the ones who can fix those problems. But they do what they can to ensure their hive survives, and that includes sticking bee things wherever their beekeepers leave spaces for them to stick things.

I love this video. I mean, I love all bee videos. I lost count of how many I've saved on various social media platforms. But honey bees have this concept called "bee space." If a space is too small for them to use, they'll fill it with propolis (a sticky resin). If it's too big . . .

. . . then they build comb. Sometimes, the comb is too small to actually use (burr comb), but in cases like this, where the frames were too far below the lid of the bee box, they'll build up and use it. And I love it because if you give a bee an inch, they'll go, "Aww yiss" and fill it with comb.

[ID for those who need: It's a short video of a bee box with the lid taken off. The frames sit in this box, under a mesh frame. The mesh is much higher than the top of the frames, though, so from one frame, bees have built up several inches of new honeycomb. A lot of bees are crawling across it.]

#Octember Plushes. The whole gd lot of them. Honeysuckle's easy because if I had the ability to make merch of any of my stories, I'd really want plush zizzun dolls, especially of her. Mick would be a cutesy plush dragon. (1/2)

Please try to remember the 26th of #Octember! TODAY'S QUESTION: What would your character be if they were a children's toy? A teddy, a jack-in-the-box, or a dolly? A cursed furby monster that's supposed to be "jolly"? AND, who would want to play with them? 1/2 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

#LGBTQWriteAThon So close to finishing a lot of things! Namely: 1. A beta. Just a chapter and epilogue away. 2. TNS ch 5. Then prob TNS 6, because I'm on a roll with that one? 3. The Patreon. And then write a post. 4. Editing Beeslingers 5 for readers. 5. Personal statement for grad app.

#LGBTQWriteAThon October 26: Goals day! What are your goals this week? Big or small, share and cheer on others for the week to come! @queerwriters.bsky.social @rebeccafrostwrites.com #queerwriters #writingcommunity #lgbtqwriters

TNS chapter 2: Mick had to admit Lord Albert was a beautiful man. TNS chapter 5: And then Lord Albert pinned Mick up against a tree. (They are not even remotely a possible romance, but if you don't have fun writing it, then what's the point?)

#AwesomeCharacters The only art I've done (that wasn't just of generic zizzun) was of Honeysuckle, and 99% of the time, it was to do memes. Someday, I'll commission somebody to do someone else. Like Mick or something idk.

Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters It's International Artist Day! 🎉🎉 And we haven't done an art share day in a bit! So, please share with me any art you have of your characters! A doodle or picrew works too! Help me picture them! (Please no AI) #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Actually, there *is* a very old Picrew of Mick as well. I technically have one for Eleanor, but she's had a design overhaul since, sad to say. Still need to consider getting myself a Christmas gift, maybe. :V

#Octember Mick would be a were-dragon but not the hot kind. The 80s/90s rubber suit, body horror, oh-god-what-did-I-do-while-I-was-asleep were-dragon, simultaneously the protag *and* antag. Honeysuckle would be an urban legend supernatural killer who controls bees that infest your nightmares. (1/3)

Zed Prospero@zprospero.bsky.social

Please try to remember the 25th of #Octember! TODAY'S QUESTION: What would your characters be if they were a horror movie villain? Not just a "guy with knife" but a "I was impaled by a tree trunk and walked it off" kind of villain? 1/2 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Jo: An immortal figure who haunts the deserts, gun in-hand. I say "immortal" in the sense that she's neither a vampire nor a zombie, but she *is* a gd truck who you can only put down after all your friends are dead, and you're the only one who can perform the ritual. Arthur: Hannibal Lecter. (2/3)

#WIPSnips From TNS, chapter 2: Lord Albert cannot read a room to save his life. (Lady Eleanor can, but she's trying not to right now. Mick Martin, meanwhile, will present the room on Reading Rainbow if it means these two don't start shit in his family's restaurant.) #amwriting #writingcommunity

Chapter 5 is halfway done. Things we learn so far: 1. That Tabitha, Lord Albert's team healer and the party mom, reads *the spiciest* noble/commoner bodice rippers. This girl would have a booktok account if she could. She'd read Fourth Wing for the plot. 2. How Mick and Eleanor met.

#AwesomeCharacters God, I hope it's not Lord Albert. Lord Albert is full of himself and doesn't know how to shut up. He would be one of those dudebros who'd tell me his life story the entire time. Doc McQueen, on the other hand, *does* know how to shut up, but he's got his shoes off the whole time.

Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters Hypothetical day! You have just settled in to your seat for a 12 hour flight when the person assigned to the seat next to you arrives. It is one of your antagonists. Who is your seatmate, and how bad is this? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
