Transom is turning 25 and we’re marking it the best way we know how: by getting together for a weekend of exceptional audio. Join us in Woods Hole, MA for a very special gathering: • Workshops + talks • Deep listening • Food + beach + rest Sept 17–19, 2026. Details coming soon. Save the date.

We're really excited about our new project, The Listeners, and doubly excited to start if off with Scott Carrier.

Scott Carrier, radio legend, takes us inside a remote town in Utah. It’s a quiet story about landscape and longing. About the people who make up this complicated and beautiful place. Listen to “Old La Sal”, the inaugural story for our new project and callout, “The Listeners.” bit.ly/44NfSwU

An old one! But maybe still useful.

Jay Allison! He’s the reason. Back in 1980, he wrote an article about the importance of radio. We re-published these words in 2013, and a lot of it still holds. Check it out here: transom.org/2013/the-bas... @jayall.bsky.social

We need this kind of gathering in order to move beyond the issues of the past year and build a working partnership supported by listeners. Public Broadcasting's current crisis is too large to ignore. We must pull together. It is not too late.

The conversation would be mediated and held at the new CAI space where GBH plans to host public forums, or any suitable location. APM would be happy to help organize, fund, and facilitate. The conversation could air on WCAI.

Neighbors listening to neighbors is at the heart of public radio and local journalism. We're professional communicators, after all, so let's communicate in order to clear the air, have a transparent exchange, and lay out positive plans.

Given recent protests and a year of discontent in the community, Atlantic Public Media proposes a public forum to rebuild trust and preserve Cape and Islands community engagement in our public radio station, WCAI.

My recently acquired pride and joy. As one of my sons said, "Don't worry about the radio station, Dad, we have a low miles, square body '86 Chevy S10 with extended cab, stick shift, and 4 wheel drive."

Transom's Science Storytelling event is sold out tonight in Woods Hole. The workshop was a wonderful success. We'll make a radio version. Stay tuned.

We had an amazing time with all the scientist-storytellers at our "Making Waves" 3-day workshop in Woods Hole and can't wait for tonight's SOLD OUT, onstage storytelling slam hosted by @jayall.bsky.social with music by @carlakihlstedt.bsky.social!

Good one!

Coming up on The Sound School Podcast: "Amen, Chenjerai." The standing-room-only audience at On Air Fest hung on Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika's every word as he offered a kind-of sermon on how he dug deep and found his voice for "Empire City." @chenjerai.bsky.social @prx.org.

Here's today's story about the WCAI-FM building from Nieman Lab, excellent summary of where we stand. Public Media, respect the communities you serve. Please read, share, and support the cause if you can. We have ONE DAY LEFT to raise the funds. www.niemanlab.org/2025/01/gbh-...
