Continuing my posting of rainy day photos, here is Haeundae Beach in Busan, Korea, on a rainy day. Show me your rainy day photos. Rolleiflex 3.5B / Velvia 100. #rain #filmphoto #korea #busan #pinksky

Storms & hail here today. Show me your rainy day photos. Asakusa, #Tokyo. First shot on the roll. Saw this fellow sheltering from the rain and joined him. Then loaded the M3 while holding an umbrella — no mean feat. Leica M3 / Nokton 1.4/40 / Acros 100 / TMax dev stock. #pinksky #filmphoto

Today I drove down the street in Brisbane where I lived as a child in the 50s and 60s. The Queensland bottle tree that my mother planted on the traffic island outside our old house is looking great. One day I want to put a plaque next to it. #brisbane #stlucia #bottletree

What a great instrument this long necked lute is. Not sure what it’s called but morphologically it resembles a dotara (a Sanskrit word meaning 2 strings). And the singing!

Migrating south. Townsville is getting hotter every year. Besides, my grandchildren are all in Brisbane. A frantic last few days and finally we are away. In Bowen tonight. #housemovingishell

There’s talk of the merits or otherwise of taking an iced coffee to a job interview. Frankly no one with any dignity should drink takeaway coffee, least of all iced. SIt down and enjoy a proper cup. I would not hire you on that criteria alone. Continued…

One fellow sent a photo of himself, dressed in a singlet, holding a can of beer, and standing in front of a sink full of dirty dishes. I kid you not. Several women sent photos of themselves in bikinis. One sent a photo of 3 women, with no indication of which she was. Continued…

I replied to every one of these unsuitable applicants, giving them advice on Korean expectations of employees. The replies I got were mostly abusive. I made a shortlist for the boss. He ended up hiring someone who just walked in off the street. The guy was a disaster.

I once worked at an English school in Korea. When I left the job the boss asked me to recruit my replacement. I placed an ad & received dozen or so applications. Now, Koreans typically ask for a photo to be included with resumes. Some of the photos, most actually, were unbelievable… Continued…

More house moving finds. Back in the 90s I lived in Port Moresby. Unable to listen to my favourite radio program, “The Daily Planet”, I asked someone in Australia to record it for me. I still have dozens of the tapes. Great listening eclectic music presented by @luckyoceans. Keeping these. #music

Moving house. Just took two boxes of cassette tapes to the tip. I used to buy record, tape them, and never play the record again. But now have CDs and Spotify. STill have my records too. But decided it was time to dump the tapes. Kinda hurt though. 1 of 2…

2 of 2… I kept some of the recordings I have made myself over the years. I used to tape classical music concerts in India. I also kept recordings I made in India of old Indian classical music records. Rare recordings.

Saw an exhibition of her work in Seoul a couple of years ago. Fascinating eye she has. Always a bit of an outsider- looking on, though often reflected somewhere.

Interesting find is Ed Askew. His songs have a psych-folk bent, a little like some of Mike Heron’s work with the Incredible String Band. I find his nasal voice takes a bit of getting used to, and his use of mandolin as the main rhythm instrument. Worth a listen though, esp. the For The World album.

I listened to this music every night for 10 years. I got so attuned to it that the first few bars were enough to drop me off to sleep. I seldom heard the piece finish. I haven’t played it now for years. Found the CD just now ) for some reason I have 2 copies) and played it. …

Listening to it now I feel all the years since my time in PNG passing through me: my daughter’s illness, the breakdown of my first marriage, the difficult relationship that followed, my time in Korea, My second marriage. It’s been a trip. Music has powers…

The return of the weekly music report. It’s been a while. The music I have been listening to over the last week, ranked by number of tracks played. This skews the results towards music with lots of short tracks, and excludes actual physical media that I listen to. #lastfm #music

If you had to build a CD or record collection from scratch, what’s the first album you would buy? Me, I’m torn between Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, and some Bach Cantatas. I think Bach has the edge.

For the record. Here’s mine 10. After I submitted it I regretted not including some Palestrina & Telemann. My tastes are at both ends timewise - Early, Baroque, and contemporary. #classic100 #GOAT

and number 4 - Lark Ascending, by Vaughn-Williams. Call me a barbarian but I don’t like this. I think it’s overplayed, esp by ABC. No goat. (My wife absolutely hates this piece - She has turned the radio off!) #classic100 #GOAT
