I guess if big publishing's death embrace of generative-AI means that it's impossible to fight against the use of AI in publishing, the golden age of the zero-gen-AI indie author is beginning. Support indie authors for the sake of the environment, ethics, and all those other reasons!

I'm more of a lighthearted science fantasy reader, but I have to admit this nightmarish tale has me hooked. Book 2 coming in just a few days!

Don't just be a follower, be part of my community! Which you do…by following me… 😅 Where are my readers who love dark science fantasy books with nonhuman characters, deep lore, and heroes who lose? I'm looking for you!

Just finished this one. The aliens, shifters, and forging of new friendships made for a fun read!

WERECONIFER is the sequel to WERECOCKROACH. Some months after the first book, Rin and their friends are asked to help find a missing shapeshifting tree. Generally gentle with a queer found family and also aliens. #AroAce #QueerBookSky More information: www.polenthblake.com/words/weretr...

A fun series for adults too. I've been spending my Saturday reading The Ghost Orb.

This is literally what I’m researching right now and uhh. Turns out continuous learning is really difficult and almost invariably leads to reward hacks. aka the model will immediately start doomscrolling and never stop because it’s addicted to novelty and doesn’t have bodily needs.

I don't know this author, but a LOT of my mutuals are gushing about this series.

Today is publication day for Untwined, my third novel, second and final in the Imbued dark fantasy duology! 💙📚 There isn't much I can say that I haven't said a million times before. I'm incredibly proud of this book, and it means the world to me. Writing it was a terrifying, rewarding, beautiful,

Far Removed is one of my most memorable reads of the last couple years. Book 2 is already on my shelf. Hoping to crack it open in October!

Author C B Lansdell@cblansdell.bsky.social

Today my debut novel, Far Removed turns 3 years old 🎂. Thank you to every reader who has engaged with this moody, gothic sci-fi story and everything I have written since its release.

No particular book caused me to start writing, but Erin M Evans's Brimstone Angels series inspired me to strive for memorable endings.

W&S_BOOKCLUB@wsbookclub.bsky.social

Here's a question for #authors: What author or book inspired you or caused you to start writing? #bookblogger #booksky

On my list, though it looks like we Canadians need to wait 10 more days.

Anyway, Happy Book Birthday to me 🎉🥳 In a future Britain, archaeologist and TV presenter Eva Sinclair investigates the mysterious fern-like patterns left by drought around the long-dry riverbed of an ancient massacre site. www.gold.ac.uk/goldsmiths-p...

It was the cover of book 1 that drew me into this series. And the stories are as enchanting as the art!

*whispers* if you wanna hear me talk about THE TRAITOR & THE WRETCH and my experience reading for 800 words that is up on Patreon ✨ There will be a very short version of this public but yknow! www.patreon.com/posts/traito...

My current read! Read the first quarter in one day (which is a lot for me).

The Sauútiverse was represented by @genni.bsky.social and @wtalabi.com for the Sauúti Terrors launch at Swancon in Perth last weekend. 🚀💫📚 It was an amazing reception of the Sauutiverse down under with signings galore! Get your copies: sauuti.com/sauuti-terro...

Two sweet characters living in a cruel society. This story has stayed in my mind long after the reading.

Author C B Lansdell@cblansdell.bsky.social

I'm pleased to share Antano's thoughtful review of Far Removed 🤍 I took a chance writing something that was a departure from the mainstream fantasy books I was coming across, and it's lovely to see those differences recognised and appreciated.

My "World of Monsters" trilogy started in 1994. After countless dreadful drafts, I finally found my writing voice in 2018. The books should be printed by this December and I'm hoping to launch at Montreal Worldcon!

I started writing All Our Sins in 1991 but was way too young to do it any justice. The story stayed with me. I took a stab at writing it in my early 20s but couldn't do it justice then either. Now Book 1 is published and Books 2 and 3 are on the way! Have you ever had something stay with you?

Finished this morning! Awakened explores the horror that comes about when our choices badly affect other people. Reader beware, you may never want to make a decision again.

Laura Elliott@tinywriterlaura.bsky.social

it’s #WorldBookDay and #WomenInHorror month, so i’m obliged to remind you all that my horror dystopia novel, Awakened, a somewhat Frankenstine meets The Yellow Wallpaper gothic tale, is out and available for your reading pleasure!🐦‍⬛ linktr.ee/lauracelliott

Happy 4th decaversary to Steve! If you're looking for an entertaining urban (rural?) fantasy, I suggest trying The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle.

I turn 40 this week (eep! 😅) and would love a share of my pinned (or any of my posts below!) as a birthday thing! Normally I feel bad about milking a birthday for promo, but . . . honestly who cares. I'm tired and the world sucks. 🤣

I was shouting "Noooo!" from start to finish. Cruel, heartbreaking and one of the most addictive books I've read in a while.

THE FIRST SIN is out! Dive into a gritty, spicy, dark adult scifantasy, perfect for fans of JC's Avatar, Battlestar Galactica, and Babylon 5. Follow Tårik as he struggles to survive in exile all while ignoring signs he is the harbinger of prophecy. https://ubl.akairondragon.ca/tfs

Been reading this one since last week. A tigress assassin, a crystal statue crime boss, and more!

Holliday Vermont@hollidayvermont.bsky.social

Hey, instead of watching the Harry Potter trailer, I've got a better idea. Why not buy books and art from the trans people Rowling loves to hurt? Let's start with me! This is The Knowing Doll, you can get it on Itch.io, physical next week, audio next month! hollidayvermont.itch.io/the-knowing-...

The Sapphire Heart. I ordered this pretty #spfbo 11 contestant from a small bookstore. It took a few weeks to get here, but I have a feeling the wait will be worth it.

I moved to present tense a few years ago. Now it's all I use. I like the enhanced immediacy. Khan Wong and Ciel Pierlot use it very effectively. It was "Bluebird" that made me switch.

Susan Savage Lee@susansavagelee.bsky.social

How do you feel about the use of present tense in stories? It always feels awkward to me to use as a writer or to read as a reader. Short bursts of it are okay, though #writingq #WritingCommunity

Read this one again last week. I still love that Agent Roach scene!

Dan Hanks@danhanks.bsky.social

While listening to a publishing podcast today, I heard mention of just how tough it was to launch a debut in the pandemic. And I can tell you: yes. It was. Anyway, this was mine & it's a lot of fun! Help a pandemic debut out and give it a go? www.barnesandnoble.com/w/captain-mo...

The covers in this series always catch my attention. Book purchase imminent!

SciFi-Fantasy cover reveal!✨🚀 Rarkin's Monster Containment team consists of; sharp shooter Amon (they/ them), my autistic MC Rarkin (he/him), Miona (she/her) and Rinth (he/him). (Yes, sexy uniforms DO indicate ace characters 😉.) ♠️🌈📚🪐📚💙📚🧠: elisecarlson.com/sythe-series/ Art by Lawrence Mann (1/2)

This one carries an emotional kick to the chest. I suspect it'll reach the top 10.

Author C B Lansdell@cblansdell.bsky.social

After losing the SPFBO lottery in '24, I am excited to share that my debut made it in this year. Best of luck to all my fellow contestants, and wishing other opportunities to those who won't be joining us. I'm lowering the ebook price for the next month.

I read this one about a year ago. An excellent choice by the #SFINCS3 judges!

Lauren C. Teffeau@teffeau.bsky.social

Oh wow! I had no idea what to expect when I threw my hat into the ring, but I'm honored to announced A Hunger with No Name is a #SFINCS3 semi-finalist! Thank you to the judges, the other authors in the Team WIP cohort, and my fellow semi-finalists!

This one kept me up later than was wise last night. Good thing I live next to a coffee shop.

Author C B Lansdell@cblansdell.bsky.social

A couple of months ago I won a giveaway run by @stevewestenra.bsky.social. I suspect post to South Africa takes scenic routes, but a special parcel finally arrived at my local post office today📬. Excited to add this cryptid investigation novel to my new year reads. The cover looks so professional!

I'm a sucker for a good ad. Winds of Destruction obtained.

The Palace of Winds is my epic fantasy trilogy. It's full of nature vibes and elemental spirits. It's about finding yourself through chaos and evolving through experience. It's about love, creation, and mercy. And book 1 is only 99c because book 3 releases in just 1.5 months!!! #booksky

This one was a lot of fun. Think "Xena: Warrior Princess", but with elves

Do you like elves, high fantasy, and low-stakes adventures with a touch of comedy? WIZARD OF THE CRUMBLING TOWER may be for you! It's the first volume of many in my brand new novella series, THEY WERE ELVES, and is available via paperback, Kindle, and EPUB! books2read.com/twe1

You are up to date.
