My entire home is now hazy and I'm surprised/slightly worried that the smoke alarm didn't go off, but I wanted a steak and now I'm eating one. (Note to self: next time, just buy the heat-and-eat prime rib.)

There's a vaccine for chickenpox now. Also, due in no small part to advances in packaging, supermarkets carry a much wider variety of produce than when I was a kid.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

"From where I stand, it was not stressful, because I’m doing this as a volunteer, and if I get hit by a bus, then it will be someone else’s problem." I think I might need to adopt this mindset.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Got a look at some press photos for this show I'm working on...sweet mother of ceramides, you'd think I'd never moisturized in my life.

Never in 30-ish years of acting have I gone up on a line as hard as I did today. The words were gone, the thought was gone, the direction the scene needed to go, total mental whiteout conditions. Thank fuck we don't have an audience yet.

How can it possibly be this fucking hard to schedule a CT scan when I have "good" insurance and live in the third largest city in the fucking country?

Thank you, random gym bro in a Hummer, for checking on me while I was paused to watch the dude acting oddly near the passthrough at the edge of the parking lot. (Dude turned out to be slightly lost.)

If you try to fly a Chicago flag upside down to signal distress it just looks like a normal Chicago flag, which raises the possibility that every Chicago flag you've ever seen was flying upside down to signal distress

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

Just saw a pedicab go by with a Pomeranian as the only passenger. Presumably the driver's, but one could imagine stories.

This is a better epilogue to my January story about the private equity firm profiting off of ICE's cruelest flights than I could have ever possibly hoped for. CHICAGO: You went to the mat and protected (at a minimum!) thousands of immigrants from torture. Take a bow. prospect.org/2026/10/02/i...

I only recently learned that industrial musicals were ever a thing. Imagine what else theatre history class didn't have time to cover in two semesters....

Accidentally bought whole beans instead of ground coffee for the office. Have now pushed my poor little grinder to its limit going through an entire 18-oz bag. Sorry, grinder.

After 10.5 hours at jury duty I went to the nearest L stop, forgetting that boarding there would take me all the way around the Loop instead of straight north. Argh.
