These cuts continue a long-term trend and are why 58 Kentucky school districts were not able to provide a raise to teachers and school employees this year: kypolicy.org/2027-kentuck...

In 3 out of 4 Kentucky school districts, the state is providing less in K-12 SEEK payments this year than last year. In Jefferson County, for example, that's a cut of $24 million. Counting inflation, 98% of districts are receiving less. 1/

This Lexington-based company just registered and hired the biggest lobbying firm in Frankfort. It's the new company of Jonathan Webb, who previously founded AppHarvest - the Kentucky agribusiness startup that took off like a rocket before it exploded.

This is what Kentucky is offering a sales tax break on. That giveaway is getting more costly all the time assuming it all doesn’t go bust real soon

KY tax revenue has grown 12.8% in Q1 compared to last year, but that's almost entirely because of corporate tax windfalls likely generated by extraordinary corporate profits/stock gains and/or tariff refunds. Other states are seeing same thing. Other KY revenue growth is slow.

Federal Medicaid cuts are a severe threat to rural hospitals in Kentucky, and the small rural health fund provided in HR 1 will not come anywhere close to stopping the harm. See the new @KyPolicy analysis for more 1/2

As home values have increased in recent years, there’s been talk of caps on property assessments that require changing the constitution & do more harm than good. Instead, KY can pursue commonsense reforms already in place in many other states. More here: kypolicy.org/kentucky-pro...

NEW: Because of the continued erosion in state funding for Kentucky public schools in the new budget, 1 in 3 school districts are providing *no raise* to teachers this year. The median district provided a raise of just 1%, far below inflation of 3.4% kypolicy.org/2027-kentuck...

Kentucky tax revenues in the past fiscal year fell $1 billion short of triggering an income tax cut in 2028, marking the third time in four years the trigger was missed. The state even missed a lower threshold that would have lowered the tax rate by a smaller amount. #kyga26

Calling people in Kentucky "backwards and poor" will sure get their attention

The places like many in Kentucky that oppose data centers want to be “backwards and poor,” the president says

Gov Beshear says on his update today: “I don’t think data centers need incentives. I don’t think we should be providing them. I would certainly support rolling back any of that. These are some of the wealthiest companies in human history, they can afford the construction”

In 2024 Kentucky passed a law making it a crime to sleep outside because you are homeless. More than 1 person a day in the state is being charged as a result, and new data from the law’s second year shows the number of charges is rising. kypolicy.org/unlawful-cam...

kypolicy.org‘Unlawful Camping’ Charges Increase in Second Year of House Bill 5 - Kentucky Center for Economic PolicyIn the second year of Kentucky's House Bill 5, law enforcement agencies filed more unlawful camping charges than the first year.

A 2nd Kentucky legislator who voted for data center tax breaks in ‘25 says “Now obviously I’m not for any type of tax breaks…for these mega data centers, & there is legislation that is going to be proposed in this upcoming session that is going to go back and take these away.”

A member of Senate leadership in the Kentucky legislature is saying the 50-year tax break for data centers is "not needed" and "is going away or will be substantially reduced."
