Verona is known as the city of Romeo and Juliette. I know it as the place where you can sit in an ancient Roman amphitheater, drink wine and take in the most amazing opera. #culture #history #travel

High above the town of Field and the Kicking Horse River is a small outcropping of some of the most famous rocks in the World - the Burgess Shale. These rocks tell the story of the blossoming of life in the Early Cambrian. Life was very different then.

In Geology, there's a fundamental precipe called the Principle of Original Horizontality proposed by Steno. It asserts that layers of sediment are originally deposited horizontally under the action of gravity. Its usually a good rule of thumb but canyons screw it all up. They're rather pretty.

A Rocky Mountain Big Horn Ewe. The horn isn't as majestic as the males but they certainly are sweet. Radium BC. #wildlife #wildlifephotography #photography #slowtheroll

Cosmos - A life of wonder In 1980, a PBS series Cosmos premiered. I was transfixed by Carl Sagan - his knowledge, his wonder and his passion. I was a kid then, much older now but I still look to the skies for wonder. This is a photo of the Andromeda Galaxy I took from my backyard in Calgary.

Brown "Black" Bear This is the mother Black Bear of the cubs up the tree. The mother was busy foraging and she sent her young cubs up a tree for safety. In Waterton, many of the "Black" bears are a light brown. #wildlifephotography #birds #images #photography #Waterton #NationalPark

Great Blue Heron In the grasslands of Waterton Park, we were out getting a few landscape shots when this wonderful heron flew by. I'm sure I had the wrong settings for a bird in flight but it looks ok #wildlifephotography #birds #images #photography #Waterton #NationalPark

Bohemian waxwing. I have a Mountain Ash tree outside my home office window. Early one afternoon a flock of these wonderful birds descended on the tree to eat last year’s berries. #wildlife #wildlifephotography #lookoutside #photography

The starry skies over Red Rock Coulee. SE Alberta. A lot has gone on in this area. The red rocks are concretions that formed on the sea floor of a Cretaceous seaway. The sea filled with sediment, was buried, uplifted and eroded, just in time for me to take this photo. #geology #photography

Milky Way over Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Canada. A while agoI had the opportunity to spend a few hours in the wee of the morning at Moraine Lake. I recently revisited some of my images to reprocess them. #astrophotography #nightscape #images #photography #Banff #NationalPark

I had some issues with my account. All fixed now. In the meantime, I have been out taking photos, including a wonderful trip to nearby Waterton National Park.
