🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City found guilty on virtually all charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial regulations. #MCFC expected to appeal against verdict issued by independent commission. Sanctions undecided, process ongoing @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/704...

Twenty five years ago today I was in NYC researching the professional WUSA league formed by the 99ers, the Hendricks family and other media investors. No credit card, a basic mobile phone, and three pre paid nights in a hotel. And then…

"We could hear that a calamity was indeed happening, nearby, but elsewhere. The devastation sucked the soundscape out of the rest of the city, as if those not directly involved were surplus to requirements: which we were." @jeanolafc.bsky.social writing about being in #NewYork 25 years ago.

Vlatko has a charmed life whereby he seems to keep getting promoted beyond his abilities….

BREAKING: Vlatko Andonovski and the Kansas City Current have mutually parted ways. Per club release: "Both parties determined that Andonovski’s requested transition from coaching into the Sporting Director role at the end of last season was not the right fit." #NWSL

Thought this was a fantastic piece if you haven’t already seen it.

Delighted to offer 50 free eprints of my new article on the history of men’s and women’s World Cup mascots via this link www.tandfonline.com/eprint/BU7VQ... @ijhs.bsky.social From World Cup Willie 1966 to the weirdest commercial exploitation of Rapinoe-esque values in penguin form, Tazuni, enjoy!

Reminiscent of Michel Zen-Ruffinen, and Doris Valasek in 2002. The wrangling clearly continues. And no, boycotting the women’s U20 will not help as it is largely irrelevant (to FIFA) as a commercial product. Now’s not the time to use women’s football this way. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

theguardian.comFifa chief sacked after criticism of Infantino’s World Cup sell-off planThe Fifa chief operating officer, Kevin Lamour, has been sacked after openly criticising Gianni Infantino’s ill-fated plan to sell parts of the World Cup to private investors

UEFA have now ramped this up with a *potential* legal threat, however, recourse to CAS appears unlikely given that it has largely been toothless. Maybe just not getting the leverage required so far. Could risk stalling, as Lennart Johansson ultimately did against Blatter in 1998. All in the book…

The AFC may be pivotal given the lack of unanimity in CONCACAF but it could just be a bargaining position for more money - hence the phrase ‘this is not about money.’ 😉 it may also be about hosting future world cups. Will have very little to do with the soul of football www.uefa.com/news-media/n...

Obvs love the first episode of #Ted #Lasso, but if the history of women’s football is worth doing, even with creative licence, it’s worth doing right. Women were not allowed to play again after the 1921 FA ban in England in 1971. It was overturned in 1969 and ratified by FA council Jan 1970.

As a historian always an interesting weekend when a GP is held the same day as a World Cup final. Often F1 acting as a curtain raiser for the football later in the day. In the early days Liberty Media being less willing than Ecclestone to move the F1, but today being more astute about fan overlaps…

Delighted to be alongside some important pioneers here!
