Being Ukrainian in 2026 is strange.
You can be exhausted, angry and scared…
and still ridiculously proud🇺🇦

Late October morning in Kyiv.
We were under attack last night.
Once again (I’ve lost count), ‘my’ bridge was hit.
It’s closed to cars and metro trains.
I’m making a warcoffee. Electricity is back. Just for a few hours. So, life has its treats, for sure.
Friends, we're ok
Working remotely today
Another sleepless night under a massive ballistic attack
I bought a new batch of beef for my cats
Good thing I was able to return home from the store before the drone attack
It's always a big relief to me to have cat food for a week
The same with cat litter
I missed it.
Was busy with the ‘we have electricity’ routine.
Earlier today, Ukrainians across the country and around the world wrote the same text at the same time.
It’s the annual National Unity Radio Dictation.
This year’s text, The Letter That Never Ends, was written by 🇺🇦 writer Artur Dron.
A new Sunday Letter from Kyiv was sent to members.
This week, I shared what caught my attention, what made me stop and think, and how I see life in Kyiv during war.
If you missed it, you can find it here: www.patreon.com/strategywoma...
Today I took warm socks out of the drawer.
The woollen ones the Lady with Golden Hands knitted in the last years of her life.
Every time I pass the place where she used to sell them, I sigh.
Her smile...
It's getting colder in Kyiv.
"We're making a freaking fortune!"
"They're not serious people!"
As the mid-terms approach, Donald Trump and his old rival Barack Obama both addressed rallies last night.
Drone debris falls on Kyiv like steel rain.
The mayor keeps us informed about the damage it causes.
We pretend we have umbrellas to hide under.
Saturday evening.
Drone attack again.
I look out of the window to check whether it’s raining or not.
I’m from Ukraine.
I have seen cities disappear.
I have seen lives destroyed.
I have seen things I wish I could forget.
And I still believe my country has a beautiful future🇺🇦

Grey morning in Kyiv.
What a joy to learn that metro trains cross the Dnipro River over ‘my’ bridge again.
Yesterday, it was quite a challenge for me to get to the right bank of the city. But I met interesting people and brought rainy beauty in the pockets of my phone.
Loneliness
This photo was taken by Ukrainian photographer Anna Biletska, now based in Sweden, in 2019.
It caught my attention immediately at the art fair.
But then I found her website. The Nature Art, Venice and Street Color series are so good

Morning in Kyiv after the night attack.
I woke up early to make a warcoffee, wash and dry my hair before the power outage.
My sleep was chopped up by explosions.
russians hit the metro infrastructure on ‘my’ bridge. So, once again, metro trains aren’t crossing the Dnipro River over it.
Kyiv.
Evening.
The generators are singing outside.
And all these talks, meetings, and negotiations seem a bit ridiculous to me in Kyiv, surrounded by the sound of resistance, and reading about the end of August 1939.
Things are so messed up in the world.
I stopped and looked at autumn.
My mum wrote that drones caused damage in my hometown. She is fine.
I filmed colourful leaves.
Kyiv is preparing to get some rest, but rest is not the thing here.
Beauty gives me some.
I adapted. I did.
Air raid alert.
Drone threat in Kyiv.
I’m having a warcoffee and choosing a book of the week.
It’s a beautiful bookstore that opened recently.
Perhaps it didn’t make the news in your media.
Yesterday, russia damaged the Book Chamber of Ukraine in Kyiv.
It holds 15+ million books, newspapers, magazines and maps published in Ukraine since 1917.
The collections are now at risk from moisture. Windows in the storage areas were blown out.
What was it like to live in Kyiv this week?
I wrote about it in my new members-only Sunday Letter.

We have reached the point where a former President of the United States has to remind the current President that criticizing him isn't grounds for deportation.
With this message, I want to express my support for France.
Seeing all the destruction is devastating.
Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Behind Blue Eyes
2022-2024
In spring 2022, Dima Zubkov and Artem Skorohodko brought aid to deoccupied villages in the Chernihiv region.
They gave children disposable cameras to tell stories of their wartime lives and dreams.
Today, Behind Blue Eyes is a charity supporting children’s creativity.
Late evening in Kyiv.
Darkness is dotted with pale light from windows.
Power outage.
A familiar voice outside assured everyone that the air raid alert was over.
When did it begin?
These days, the attacks seem continuous.
I see no need to complain or grumble.
I write. You read. I write.
Kyiv.
I visited an exhibition today.
Powerful.
‘War and Conflict Photography in Times of Global Change’.
While I was there, the power went out.
Generators saved the situation.
But I want you to feel this moment of darkness.
His eyes.
Is he looking at you or inside you?
I promised (did I?) to show more works of Vladyslav Shereshevskyi.
My visit to his solo exhibition in Kyiv - in a new Art Note.
I don’t send them by email. You can find this one here:

Today, as Zelenskyy visits the UK, I remembered a piece of art I saw at the weekend in Kyiv.
What a coincidence.

The sun is shining brightly in Kyiv
after a loud night
when russians targeted our energy infrastructure.
I opened the window.
Generators can be heard everywhere.
No power.
But I had a warcoffee. Strong. Black.
🎯 Did russia's digital detox give us more reach than usual? Can't prove it, but won't complain!
Target is reached. A weekend of generous donations closed the fundraiser 🫂
Thank you, friends and anonymous donors. The truck goes to GUR's Timur group at the end of the month with @69thsb.bsky.social.
🫂 A lot of content here is about the horrors of russia's aggression against Ukraine.
And yet, there is also love, strength, hope even in these very dark times.
With @69thsb.bsky.social, we're funding a truck 🛻 for the defenders of GUR's Timur group.

I’ve never seen anything like that.
A chestnut tree is blooming in Kyiv.
In October.
No, it’s not a massive ‘trend’.
Other trees are just like trees in autumn.
Yellow, red, bald, tiredly green.
Kyiv.
Saturday.
Emergency power outages after russian attacks.
Such a sunny day.
The metro stopped running for a short time.
I want to visit KYIV ART FAIR.
Missile attack. Explosions.
Still want to go.
After reading the news about today’s call between trump and putin,
I want to show you this sculpture
INDIFFERENCE THAT KILLS

Ceramics, artist’s own technique
Again and again russia destroys Ukrainian books.
After each strike on a book warehouse, I film how Kyiv bookstores react. Today, my favourite one.
In the video: some books by Knygolove, whose warehouse was hit yesterday. The bookstore asks people to support affected publishers by buying a book.
Kyiv.
I am in my favorite bookstore.
That means I crossed the Dnipro River. Trains of my metro line run across it again with some restrictions.
Relief.
I write more about how Kyiv and I live in the letters. Sunday Letter from Kyiv. Sounds good.
russians kill children, women and men, the young and those whose hair has turned silver.
russians destroy homes where someone had breakfast yesterday. They burn warehouses full of books.
putin is evil. But this evil has hands that kill, destroy and burn.
Late morning in Kyiv after the overnight attack.
Soon, I’m going to my workout.
As usual on Wednesdays.
Perhaps you’ve read about the casualties and damage. Not only in Kyiv. I hope you have.
I don’t open the windows. The city is covered in smoke.
Something unusual is happening in Kyiv.
Calm.
Since last night.
It’s 4 pm.
This calm feels like a spider’s web.
Delicate. Fragile.
May the spider keep doing its job.
These days there’s so much talk of a nightmare waiting for Kyiv: we’ll freeze with no water or electricity, and strikes on bridges connecting the two banks will cause a logistical collapse…
I don’t say times are or will be easy. But I stay in Kyiv. This panic benefits russia.
And now for some good news: russian launchers in Bryansk region have been destroyed🔥
These launchers were used to fire ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the region😡
While putin is desperately fighting with bridges in Kyiv,
we find solutions.
I’m in an absolutely beautiful Telegram group, where people can ask for a lift from one bank of the city to another or offer one.
I love reading messages there.
This is what I was afraid of.
russian drones struck near the support structure of the Pivdennyi Bridge in Kyiv.
It connects the two banks of Kyiv across the Dnipro and it’s the one I use.
Metro and other public transport across the bridge have been stopped while engineers inspect it.
Evening in Kyiv.
I’ve lost count of how many air raid alerts we’ve had today. Another one has just ended.
A russian drone hit the bridge I mentioned earlier.
Again.
