1/ In Codex I in the back of John Scalzi’s excellent book “Redshirts” he introduces a concept involving writers block that had me put the book down and stare at a wall for a moment. It’s Appendix material, but skip the rest if you don’t want *SPOILERS*

2/ Essentially the writers block is caused by the characters he’s writing want better writing. They’re sick of his stories having no character arcs and no real consequences. They’re sick we’re essentially frozen in stasis and sick of it.

5/ So I went to bed thinking about those edits, and then the dreams started. I was making my edits, but the twist plot kept showing up in the script! Entire scenes I’d never written, locations I didn’t think of, characters I don’t know. I kept deleting them and they kept showing up elsewhere!

6/ Anyway, this is a long way to say, with apologies to Scalzi, apparently, the characters in MY head are all for being in a populist tv show where the stakes don’t mater and nothing ever changes! To bad for them that I DONT have writers block! 🤣

3/ I told you that story so I could tell you this one. I wrote a movie screenplay finishing it on New Years Eve. While writing it I came up with a twist that seemed pretty clever, but I couldn’t make it work. It messed with some themes and left them in a situation that would require Deus Ex Machina

4/ So I cut it before writing even a page of it into the script. Yesterday I showed the script to Karen and we decided on some edits that would make it better including combining some characters and changing the setting.

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

NEW: Metadata from the “raw” Epstein prison video shows approximately 2 minutes and 53 seconds were removed from one of two stitched-together clips. The cut starts right at the “missing minute.”

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.

I’ve been on here a couple of weeks and I have to say the big standout feature to me is that when I see and interesting post and swipe out of the app to look something up, then swipe back to reply, the post doesn’t VANISH FOREVER when the app automatically updates my feed for no reason.

You are up to date.
