Save the date for Christmas in Withington on Friday 4th December, at 5pm outside the Library with Withington Civic Society - always a great festive evening in the heart of our village in Withington. Brass Band, Choir, Carols and festive refreshments too! Credit to Len Grant for the artwork image.

This week marks Baby Loss Awareness Week, from 9-15 October, which helps raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss. The week ends with a global event where people light a candle at 7pm for #WaveofLight. This week, and throughout the year, we remember every baby & family affected by baby loss.

Great to attend the official opening of the ‘Bath House’ in Chorlton. High quality affordable rent properties for residents over 55 - and tenants downsizing means that desperately needed larger homes have been freed up for families. Well done to MSV, officers at MCC and Caddick for their design

Labour is investing almost £10 million to improve access to healthy, affordable food, helping families & communities get room to breathe on the cost of living. Through the Government’s Good Food Cycle, the programme will help communities access healthier food & build a more resilient future.

With Labour, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. The dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.

For years, passengers have had to put up with delays, cancellations, overcrowding and unreliable services on Avanti West Coast. The government have announced that Avanti will be brought into public ownership from March 2027.

Withington Baths are helping Perry’s Pantry with their Harvest Festival food collection to help local families in need. Donations of tinned fruit, vegetables, meat, fish & other tinned foods are welcome. If you can help, please drop donations at Withington Baths reception by 5th October.

Women experiencing rough sleeping are often hidden from official statistics - and therefore the support they need. I’m supporting @SHPcharity and @SolaceWomensAid’s #MakeWomenCount campaign, calling for the Women’s Rough Sleeping Census to be rolled out nationally from 2027.

For too long, families and people experiencing pregnancy loss or the passing of an immediate family member haven’t had a legal right to bereavement leave. From April 2027, the Government will give employees a new legal right to bereavement leave, including following pregnancy loss.

Sepsis claims 5 lives an hour in the UK. It can affect anyone at anytime, but fast action saves lives. I’m joining the UK Sepsis Trust to share the message: trust your instincts. If you or a loved one has an infection and just know something’s wrong, Just Ask: “Could it be Sepsis?”

It was great to attend Chorlton Pride! Another fantastic event celebrating the community. Thank you to all the organisers, especially the Chair Cllr Mathew Benham, for all their hard work in putting it together.

I’m an officer of the All Party Group on Ticket Abuse, and we met recently with the Competition and Markets Authority, to talk about the best ways for the Labour Government to fulfil its pledge to tackle ticket touting.

Greater Manchester MPs met with our new Mayor Bev Craig in Parliament, to hear about her priorities for the region and how we can work together to help the residents of Greater Manchester.

My amendments to the Health Bill would have reduced unnecessary barriers to clinical research into psychedelic-assisted therapy. Good to speak to Sky News about the issue in more detail.

Come along to Withington Library on 11th September from 10.30am to celebrate the launch of the new Map of Green and Quiet Spaces in Withington, Old Moat and Ladybarn. Meet the gardeners and guardians who help look after our local green spaces, take home a free plant and hear from Dr Morag Rose.

A pleasure to visit Gita Bhavan Hindu Temple in Whalley Range for their Raksha Bandhan celebration. An evening bringing together Manchester’s Hindu community with members of our Armed Forces, police and fire services, and celebrating the shared values of service and community.

Labour is funding more than 70,000 new homes across England, putting councils at the heart of housebuilding and helping more families find a safe, secure home. In Greater Manchester, more than £529 million will help deliver around 4,000 new social and affordable homes.

Can you spare an hour each month? Friends of Old Moat Park gather on the first Sunday of each month for their regular volunteering session, all equipment provided. Meet at 2pm in the park for their next session on Sunday 6th September ♻️

Nice to be back behind the decks at Manchester Pride this weekend. Manchester has always been a city that celebrates diversity, stands up for equality and looks out for our LGBTQ+ community. Pride is a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come, while recognising that there is still more to do

A month ago, Andy Burnham became Prime Minister. Here's what he's been up to so far: ⛺Pledged to end rough sleeping, with a route for every rough sleeper to be off the streets this winter. 🚌Capping bus fares at £2. 🪩Cutting business rates for pubs, clubs and music venues. and much more!

An honour to join fellow MPs, Mayors, the Chief Rabbi and community representatives at last night’s memorial event at Heaton Park synagogue, where we paid tribute to Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, who lost their lives in the terrorist attack last year.

The Ladybarn litter pick is happening this Saturday 29th August, 11am, meeting at Ladybarn Community Hub on Royle Street. A chance to meet new friends in the community and improve your area.

Good to meet my constituent, Lynsey Weir, from Manchester Mums Movement to discuss her work helping new mums return to exercise and rebuild their physical strength after childbirth, and how we can close the gap in postnatal care.

Great to see new accessible play equipment in Old Moat Park. Your local Labour councillors Garry and Gavin have been working with Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council to help tackle Anti-Social Behaviour over the summer and improve the park for everyone

Work begins today on a new pedestrian crossing on Palatine Road, near Goulden Road and Circular Road. Pleased to see the scheme moving forward following strong support from residents and hard work from Labour councillors in Old Moat & Didsbury West. The crossing is expected to open in September.

If something says it’s half price, it should actually be half price. If you can subscribe in seconds, you shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to leave. Labour are stepping in by cracking down on phoney discounts and making it easier to cancel subscription traps.
